Car racing has always been an awesome spectacle, regardless of their type, location, and participants. Many racing competitions in the world and numerous movies like Fast and Furious confirm this. :)
Here in the Southern Ural, where most settlements are a small village with several thousand inhabitants, there are ordinary people who also want to have fun and entertainment. When such people are united by a well-known good idea, then, despite limited financial resources and bad weather conditions, events like car races happen. In our countryside, such races held on cars called Zaporozhets.
Zaporozhets is a unique car produced in the Soviet Union at the Ukrainian factory ZAZ from the 60s to the 90s of the last century. The main distinctive feature of the design of the Zaporozhets from other Soviet cars was the location of the engine in the rear of the vehicle. Obviously, in events such as racing, this design is an advantage. Zaporozhets have not been produced for a long time, and people restore old cars for collectors or turn them into race cars to participate in such local competitions.
It so happened that in October 2005, I visited a car race held on the outskirts of the city of Yuryuzan. In addition to pictures, I shot several videos and made short gifs of them for this post. I hope you like it.
Each car is unique. Each of them has its own color, its own stickers, and its own damage. :)
Fire trucks are on duty on the racetrack to shoot down dust that rises during the race. The track is not difficult, but accidents are not uncommon. Pay attention to the following gif picture — in the background, a car turns over, people run to it and put it on the wheels.
The reinforced construction of cars prevents them from falling apart during an accident and partly protects the driver.
The absence of windows is also a security element.
The main thing in such competitions is, of course, the excitement and a lot of fun that both drivers and numerous fans get. Whatever they are, car racing will always remain one of the main male entertainment in the world.
