Hmm… 🤔 Where should I start? How about a nice cover image that I created using PeakD's AI image generator?
I bet nobody will applaud me for this kind of work, and for good reason. It takes just a minute (or less) to input a prompt—a simple combination of a few words—and only a few seconds for PeakD to generate the image, all for just a few cents of HBD. It didn’t cost much, nor did it require much effort on my part. So, there’s no real accomplishment in posting this image and claiming that I did a great job generating it. 😂
That said, I do believe this cover image plays a crucial role in highlighting the message I want to convey in this post: We are becoming less human than we were before. And unfortunately, the Hive platform isn’t entirely safe from bots and AI-generated content.
In fact, I recently learned from Marky’s latest post that 15% of the content on the platform was created by a single account. This was made possible with the help of AI, which is shocking because I wasn’t aware of it until I read the post. Considering the number of spam accounts posting AI-generated content, the actual activity on the blockchain is much lower than I initially thought.
I recently had a firsthand experience with this. At first, it seemed like my posts were getting more interaction, but I soon realized that many of the comments weren’t genuine. Well, maybe not all of them. The people I was interacting with were real, but they were using AI to generate comments on my posts in hopes of earning potential upvotes.
Maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention, because what seemed like a sincere comment wasn’t actually written by a real person—it was generated by AI.
I realized this when Hivewatchers commented on my reply to an AI-generated comment, suggesting that I might have responded to one. After doing some further digging, I found out they were right.
This made me curious—why is there a rise in AI-generated content on the platform despite the community’s continuous efforts to prevent it? What keeps these users trying their luck here? Is it even worth their time to create accounts just to post AI-generated content in hopes of making a quick buck?
I’m not sure about the general consensus on AI-generated content outside of Hive, but I do know that on this platform, it’s not tolerated. We value content created by real humans and prefer genuine interactions. I believe many would agree with me because this is what sets Hive apart from mainstream Web2 social media platforms. And that’s something we should be proud of.
So, what’s the best way to move forward?
As a creator, I take pride in producing the best content possible. I’ve even gone so far as to invest in gadgets to improve the quality of my posts. This is something I see myself doing for many years to come, which is why I want to continue investing in creating valuable content—whether it’s spending time carefully thinking through my topics, putting effort into fine-tuning the photos in my posts, or investing in tools and gadgets to level up my blog and make it worthwhile for curators to notice.
Because of this, I can’t see myself supporting those who take shortcuts by posting or commenting AI-generated content—something that takes only a few seconds and minimal effort to produce.
Last night, I started evaluating the accounts I recently interacted with and reviewing their pages to determine whether they were authentic users of the platform. I’ve already muted some that I found to be inauthentic in their actions or comments on my posts.
My goal is to encourage genuine interactions and engagement by focusing on those who put in the effort to provide meaningful comments and contributions.
With the limited resources we have, it only makes sense to focus on people who genuinely provide quality content and meaningful engagement on the platform. These are the individuals who make Hive a better place for content creation and social interaction. Producing genuine content also makes the platform more appealing to those who prefer consuming work created and vetted by real humans, rather than content generated by software.
I believe there is great value in creating content based on one’s observations, experiences, analysis, and personal perspective—rather than content that lacks a personal touch.
At the end of the day, Hive thrives because of its real, human-driven content and meaningful interactions. By prioritizing authenticity and supporting genuine creators, we help maintain the platform’s integrity and make it a more engaging space for everyone. Let’s continue to create, engage, and uplift each other—because that’s what truly sets Hive apart.
