  Originally intended to be the mausoleum of the emperor Hadrian, it becomes rather the tomb of Augustus. The ashes of Hadrian are deposited there a few years later and Caracalla is the last emperor to be buried there. Very quickly, the building is diverted from its funeral ends to become military before becoming a fortified structure protecting the city. The castle takes its current name from a legend from the ninth century, about the great plague of 590 were the pope, Gregory I, had an appearance of the Archangel Michael. The castle then becomes a prison where 4 popes have died. Then it alternates between castle, fortress, palace, papal residence. Lot of history behind these walls.

  The Dragon tree is the most mysterious and interesting tree on Tenerife. It is believed that the trees live for hundreds of years, although dating them precisely is not possible as they don’t have any annual tree rings.

  April 23th is St. George Day. It is a very special occasion in Catalonia and specially in Barcelona, the whole city is plenty with Catalonian flags. It is a custom to give a rose as a gift in this day; some of the buildings show some roses decoration as it is in the case of this photo. It corresponds to the iconic Casa Batlló built by Gaudí. The giant roses in the façade of the building are artificial.

  Greener than green it is going to be ~ 🤗🌟 ~ this ˋheavenly fresh´ it can only look in May :) ~ ~ This impression that symbolizes spring quite perfectly has been taken in the ˋforest quarter´ of Northern Austria ~ where the woods can appear very untouched and free :)) A network of pathways connects mysterious spots & ˋsecret oases of peace´ can be discovered during a visit of this one-of-a-kind romantic region... and he who should have forgotten his picnic is welcome to start grazing at the wayside enjoying the raw vegan lifestyle ~ 😅✨ ~

  Glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón

  If you've been to Iceland, my bet is you've been to the famous glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón. It's located in the South of the island and you pass it while driving on the ring road. To hear the ice "cracking" the whole time is amazing as well as scary at the same time. Check out the lagoon from both sides when you visited!

  The rather ominous looking Tower Bridge in London at Dawn. The clouds formed a perfect roof over the city this day and commuters stopped to take photos of this iconic silhouette.

  Venice, Italy I stayed in Venice ten years ago. I've long since forgotten what the channel or palace is called. Only the overall positive impression remained. Venice is a city with a unique atmosphere. But I'm afraid to go back there. Global warming. The water level is likely to rise. I want to remember Venice as it was.

  Picture taken in Greece, I specifically flew there to see this amazing place)! The Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. Monasteries are built on immense natural pillars.

  When friends knew I was going to Berlin for holiday, many told me to make sure I pre book access to the Reichstag German Parliamentary Building. I am so glad that I did as I subsequently found out that it was quite difficult to get in if you just turn up on the day. The most outstanding feature of the building is the Glass Done that is located above the partliament. It represents the fact that the people is above the government, a big move away from its dark Nazi days.

  Panoramic view of the historic center and surrounding landscape of Skalica, a beautiful little town found in western Slovakia, close to the border with the Czech Republic. Home to some 15,000 people, Skalica is known for impressive architecture dating back centuries ago.

  Fountain in Zagreb, Croatia

  Constructed at the end of the 19th century, the art pavilion is one of Zagreb's most beautiful buildings. My wide angle lens enabled me to capture this shot of a fountain in front of the yellow building.

  The Berlin concert hall and the French and German Churches, You dont see the german one - which is hidden on the right. But it looks just like the french one. Gendarmenmarkt was first built in 1688 as expansion of the emerging Berlin back then.
