Feedback from the September 1st Hive Power Up Day

This month was the second Hive Power Up Day (PUD) organized in cooperation with @hivebuzz. As always, it has been a fun day and we are delighted to see how Hive users responded to it!

We made several changes for the September edition:

The minimum amount to power-up has been lowered to 10 HIVE
We introduced the new Power-Bee levels
We updated our website with a brand new "Challenges"
We have added a countdown timer to help users with a time zone other than UTC (i.e. most of us)

September's Power Up Day was nothing short of wicked awesomesauce!

I saw so many people posting and tweeting about powering up, and I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 130 posts I've reblogged (and shout out to @fionasfavourites who managed somehow to drop a comment on every single one!).

Thank you to the HiveBuzz team for creating such an amazing BUZZ for our blockchain home!

What are the PUD stats of this month?

Let's first have a look at how it went throughout the day.

New participants joined on a regular basis just as there were no big spikes in the powered-up amounts. We finally reached an amount of 74,998 HIVE powered-up at the end of the day. It's a bit less than the last edition, but it's still an excellent score.

Let's now compare with the previous editions of the PUD.

Wow, this time we have a boom in the number of PUD participants. A total of 330 users did power-up at least 10 HIVE on September 1st (UTC time). This is an impressive increase of 36% !!!

We assume that lowering the minimum requirement really motivated more people to participate. Welcome to all the these PUD newcomers!

What about the power-up amounts by each and the mysterious new levels? Here is the distribution of the number of participants by level

And here is the distribution rule now revealed:


	Level 1 - User powered up at least 10 HIVE
	Level 2 - User powered up at least 50 HIVE
	Level 3 - User powered up at least 100 HIVE
	Level 4 - User powered up at least 500 HIVE
	Level 5 - User powered up at least 1000 HIVE

Guess some of you must be thinking they should have powered-up a bit more HIVEs 😁

Super effort from everyone here and thanks to you and @traciyork for growing this and making it a great event! I know there must be some serious buzzing going on behind the scenes to get it all together!

So I needed to power up another 400 or so HIVE to get the big daddy henchest of the henchest bee badges! Will remember that for next time 😜

Special mention to @fionasfavourites too for supporting all PUD posts as well, my feed was basically her sharing PUD posts - loved it! Tried to comment on some posts where I could!

Looking forward to the developments as time goes on! I'm sure you all have some wickedawesomesauce plans 😀

I'm happy with my level 3 bee as I would have needed a lot more for the next level. Great to see so many take part, even if it's just a few HIVE. It's just a tiny part of the HIVE daily volume, but it makes a difference. More people have more power now.

This month's I reached level 4. Next month my goal is to take myself to dolphin status with a well over 1000 HP liftoff to HENCHBEE LEVEL 5!

It 's really good to see this developing a momentum of its own thanks to the hard work of the team - and it really is that now, I think, @traciyork, @victoriabsb, @arcange and the @hivebuzz team. The badges and the "hype" are definitely making a difference. And they are the prettiest on the blockchain. IMHO lol

I am, however, going to make one point: with the limited Hive being printed, there is a challenge in persuading people to use their HBD to buy Hive. This is partly because those (myself included) who came here for fun, thanks to Covid, are having to look seriously at the balance between investment and an immediate return. Not everyone has the long view. It's about finding a balance. Says she who is often not! 😂

Great initiative and creativity in your support of HivePUD @hivebuzz! Nice to see the quantitative indication of how that has contributed for the month of September. Got any new surprises in store for us in October?

Quick question: Traci indicated there was also some badge for helping other accounts power-up. I see no indication of a badge ("Power-Up Helper" ...) like that in what you have written. Did I miss that somewhere?

The increase in the number of participants is very interesting: does gamification also work well with badges as an incentive?
