I enjoy historical fantasy with a touch of political intrigue and your tale captures both very well. The way Luchia patiently orchestrated the duke's downfall after years of humiliation and injustice is satisfying. That contrast between the duke's arrogance and Luchia's quiet composure! Yes, Lucia certainly stood up for herself, contrary to what her husband expected. He was too busy scattering his seed over the kingdom to notice how powerful she'd become. Unbeknownst to him, he nearly lost his life if he would have struck her, as faithful guards from her own people stood ready to defend her. But his just dessert may yet be served. I'm counting on it.
