Si hay algo que en esta isla (Cuba) nos alegra la vida, además de un buen café y una charla en la esquina, es una cerveza bien fría. Beber cerveza es uno de los grandes placeres de la vida, para el que le gusta, por supuesto. Y como soy una de esas personas amantes del buen beber, siempre ando en la búsqueda y captura de nuevas propuestas. Así fue como llegó a mis manos y a mi paladar la cerveza que les traigo hoy, la Puerto Cristo.

If there's one thing on this island (Cuba) that brightens our lives, besides a good coffee and a chat on the corner, it's an ice-cold beer. Drinking beer is one of life's great pleasures—for those who like it, of course. And since I'm one of those people who loves a good drink, I'm always on the hunt for new offerings. That's how the beer I bring you today, Puerto Cristo, came into my hands and onto my palate.
En la mañana pasé cerca de uno de los tantos establecimientos gastronómicos que hay en mi pueblo y decidí entrar a refrescar el calor con una buena cerveza fría. En realidad, la variedad era bien escasa, no había más que una opción, la cerveza Puerto Cristo. Era la primera vez que la veía y no dudé en comprar una y probarla. Que les puedo decir, me encantó. Tiene una sabor ligero y se parece mucho a la Cristal, la preferida de Cuba.
This morning I passed by one of the many eateries in my town and decided to go in to beat the heat with a good cold beer. Actually, the selection was pretty scarce—there was only one option: Puerto Cristo beer. It was the first time I'd seen it, and I didn't hesitate to buy one and try it. What can I tell you? I loved it. It has a light flavor and is very similar to Cristal, Cuba's favorite.
De inmediato quise saber de donde era oriunda, su volumen de alcohol y lo supe leyendo sus etiquetas. La Puerto Cristo es de Argentina y viene en una lata de 330 ml de color plateado con letras naranjas. Es de color claro y espumosa. Es ligera y refrescante, ideal para acompañar aperitivos (como el que me comí) y comidas suaves. Hablo de una Lager que se toma fácil, con un sabor suave y un amargor moderado, de esas que no te dejan la lengua tiesa. Es una buena compañera para un trago largo y para una tarde de sol. Con su 5% de alcohol, tiene el punto justo para refrescar sin noquear.
Right away, I wanted to know where it came from and its alcohol content, and I found out by reading its labels. Puerto Cristo is from Argentina and comes in a 330 ml silver-colored can with orange lettering. It's clear and foamy. It's light and refreshing, ideal for pairing with appetizers (like the one I had) and light meals. I'm talking about a Lager that goes down easy, with a smooth flavor and a moderate bitterness—the kind that doesn't leave your tongue stiff. It's a great companion for a long drink and a sunny afternoon. With its 5% alcohol, it has just the right kick to refresh without knocking you out.
Mientras degustaba mi trago, tranquila, aproveché para desconectar y olvidar los problemas de la vida cotidiana del cubano. Respiré aire puro y socialicé un poco con algunas personas. Finalmente terminé por comprar dos cervezas más, de manera que fueron tres en total y no me sentí ni remotamente mareada o mal, se contrario, me sentí alegre, entusiasta y hasta optimista. Vi la vida, al menos por un rato, un poco simple y sentí que todas las dificultades tendrían solución.
While savoring my drink, nice and relaxed, I took the chance to disconnect and forget about the everyday problems of Cuban life. I breathed in some fresh air and socialized a bit with a few people. In the end, I ended up buying two more beers, so that made three in total, and I didn't feel even remotely dizzy or bad—on the contrary, I felt happy, enthusiastic, and even optimistic. I saw life, at least for a while, as a little simpler and felt that all difficulties would have a solution.
Beber cerveza es un placer líquido y relajante. Su sabor justo abraza el paladar, mientras la espuma blanca corona el momento, lo convierte en inolvidabley eterno. Cada sorbo es un viaje donde los ingredientes bailan en armonía. Con amigos o en soledad, su carácter reconforta, refresca, acompaña y celebra la vida en su estado más puro y sabroso. Por eso brindo por ella.
Drinking beer is a liquid and relaxing pleasure. Its perfect flavor embraces your palate, while the white foam crowns the moment, making it unforgettable and eternal. Each sip is a journey where the ingredients dance in harmony. With friends or in solitude, its character comforts, refreshes, accompanies, and celebrates life in its purest and most flavorful state. That's why I raise a toast to it.
A partir de ahora, la Puerto Cristo forma parte de mis favoritas y aunque el bolsillo a veces grite, se que la tentación será más fuerte. Dicen por ahí que es “tomable” y con un toque dulzón, ideal para los que no buscan complicaciones, a mi me gustó mucho. Así que ya sabes, si ves una Puerto Cristo por tu camino, no lo pienses ¡cógela, pónle hielo (si acaso al vaso) y disfruta del magnífico placer de una encantadora y refrescante cerveza.
From now on, Puerto Cristo is among my favorites, and although my wallet sometimes screams, I know temptation will be stronger. They say it's "drinkable" with a slightly sweet touch, ideal for those who don't want complications—and I really liked it. So now you know: if you come across a Puerto Cristo on your way, don't overthink it—grab it, put some ice in the glass (if you must), and enjoy the magnificent pleasure of a charming and refreshing beer.
