August celebrations!

My family was here this weekend and we celebrated the August birthdays... Mine was the 11th and my much too grown up granddaughter has hers on the 18th.

My daughterinlaw made a Hummingbird cake and it was delicious and was quickly voted a family favorite!

The hummingbird cake had its origins in Jamaica in the late 1960s. It showcases the island's tropical fruits and flavors like bananas and pineapple., The original recipe evolved to include the cream cheese frosting and pecans,

The flower decorations on top of the cake were created by roasting pineapple!

I even received a Hummingbird birthday card!

We grilled out and had a lovely meal together, and exchanged some gifts before the storms arrived with some pretty impressive hail. More about that later..

Happy Birthday to you both! Never tried hummingbird cake, although it sounds great. I never tried any on my visits to Jamaica, but I love tropical fruit so I'm sure I'd love it!

I love family celebrations, the stuff great memories are made of.

We've had Humming Bird cake around in the past, haven't seen one in years. Although it is loved by many, I've never quite gotten into pineapple in cake, more the texture than taste. I do really love the roasted pineapple flowers on yours. I have never seen that before.
