Some Older Rock N Roll for Three Tune Tuesday

This past week has been one of those when I have trouble finding a place to start my posts. A form of writer's block I suppose... Hopefully it's not apoplexy! Fortunately, this is a Tuesday, which means my post will be a Three Tune Tuesday. Although you might have guessed by the header. This is always a fun day to randomly pick out some sort of theme, or not I suppose. I think today's has a little bit of a theme, but only because of the musical style and the era in which it was created.

Before I dive into the rest of the post, I would like to say thanks to @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this fun weekly event. If you don't yet participate feel free to jump in and test the waters by choosing three of you favorite tunes and sharing them with us. Just make sure to use the tag #ttt or #threetunetuesday . Each week one lucky participant wins some HSBI units too!

Today's theme is going to be some older rock, I felt the beat up and well used guitar in the header fit it nicely. Specifically I decided the 1970's, why? Why not? There was a lot of great music in that decade although it was before my time or I was too young to enjoy it, better said. I think we will kick off the fun with a song from 1972, some 53 years ago!

Deep Purple

Deep Purple is a heavy metal/ hard rock band formed in 1968 in London, UK. Over the years they have had multiple lineup changes just like most bands. But in the early days Ritchie Blackmore was the lead guitarist until 1974 which plays into the next band on the list today. They were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2016 and were one of the most influential bands in rock history. Many times you hear the song "Smoke on the Water" from them, but I went with something fun and different today, "Highway Star":

Rainbow

As I mentioned in the last band, Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1974 to team up with singer Ronnie James Dio, and the new band was called Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, later shortened to just Rainbow. Dio was a strong vocalist that was arguably one of the best in heavy metal history. The band produced many hits over the years, and the only constant member of the band has been Blackmore. Dio eventually left the band in 1979 to join Black Sabbath replacing Ozzy Osbourne. But many of the songs Dio contiued to perform even after leaving the band until his death in 2010. This is "Man On The Silver Mountain":

Van Halen

Van Halen originated in Los Angeles, California in 1973 and went on to be one of the most successful rock bands in history thanks to the guitar skills of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen and front man David Lee Roth. I searched just about everywhere for some clear, live footage of them back in the late 1970's after their first album was released in 1978. Unfortunately, all of the video footage of "Eruption/ You Really Got Me" has been transferred from VHS, and not very well. I couldn't find a remaster anywhere, so we are going with a live performance off Jimmy Kimmel in 2015. It shows that even late in his career Eddie still had incredible guitar skills before his passing in 2020. They were one of my favorite bands in the early 1980's!

That will wrap things up for this Tuesday, I hope you enjoyed some or all of the songs I picked out today. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below and thank you for all of your support. It's deeply appreciated! Have a great day everyone!

I'm happy to agree with your post, here I am listening to Van Halen's while commenting, but Rainbow was my discovery of the day. Good selection, I'm falling more and more in love with old music ❤️

"Man On The Silver Mountain"! it was one of my fave songs for a while in 80-es, when I used to buy vinyl and had a few Deep Purple albums, and the 'very best of Rainbow' compilation. I still feel strongly connected with 'The House of Blue Light' and songs from that album. Means a travel in time for me, nuff said. 😉 !BEER
