Seit 1. April 2025 benötigen EU-Bürger ein elektronisches "Visum" (offiziell heißt es "Electronic Travel Authorisation", kurz ETA), um in das Vereinigte Königreich zu reisen.
Ist ein ähnliches System wie ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization), das die USA bereits seit 2009 eingeführt haben.
Man muss eine App herunterlanden, dann den Reisepass und sein Gesicht scannen und Angaben zum Beruf machen, und, das kennen wir auch von den USA, angeben, ob man ein verurteilter Verbrecher oder ein Extremist, Terrorist ist.
Das elektronische "Visum" kostet derzeit 10 Pfund, gilt aber für 2 Jahre und man darf sogar bis zu 6 Monate nach UK reisen.
Ab Q4 2026 benötigen übrigens auch UK-Bürger eine ähnliche "Genehmigung", wenn sie in die EU einreisen möchten. In der EU heißt es "Travel Entry Authorisation for Visa-Exempt Nationals" (ETIAS).
Technisch ist es kein Visum, sondern eine elektronische Reisegenehmigung. In der Praxis ist es aber so etwas Ähnliches. Man braucht aber nicht auf die Botschaft gehen, um es zu beantragen, sondern es kann rein online beantragt werden.
Frage mich gerade, wer das zuerst eingeführt hat, UK oder die EU?
Jedenfalls macht es das Reisen zwischen der EU und UK etwas komplizierter. Das Gute ist aber, dass die ETA 2 Jahre gültig ist und elektronisch an eine Ausweis-NUmmer gekoppelt ist. Man braucht keinen Papierkram mitschleppen.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Wer denkt ihr, hat das zuerst eingeführt? Sind "elektronische Reise-Autorisierungen" das neue Visum?

You have to download an app, then scan your passport and your face and give details of your profession and, as we know from the US, state whether you are a convicted criminal or an extremist or terrorist.
The electronic “visa” currently costs 10 pounds, but is valid for 2 years and you can even travel to the UK for up to 6 months.

I wonder who introduced it first, the UK or the EU?
Anyway, it makes traveling between the EU and UK a bit more complicated. The good thing is that the ETA is valid for 2 years and is electronically linked to your ID card number. You don't need to carry any paperwork with you.
