Füssen and Neuschwanstein Castle are popular destinations, especially among motorhome travellers. As a result, the nearby campsites and stopovers tend to fill up quickly. Arriving without a reservation can be a matter of luck.
As long as the chain displaying the sign “All pitches occupied” is not across the entrance, you may still find a space. Once the chain is up, there is no chance of getting in.
We were lucky enough to find a pitch at Füssen Mobil for two nights.
The site is paid and open all year round. The pitches are mostly level, although levelling ramps are needed on some of them.
Facilities include toilets, showers, fresh water and electricity, as well as disposal facilities for grey water and chemical toilets. Registration and payment take place opposite the fitness centre.
A bus stop is located about 100 metres from the site. From there, you can take a bus into the town centre or walk the approximately 1.5 km. Neuschwanstein Castle can be reached via scenic hiking trails, or you can take a bus from Füssen railway station. Bus travel within the town is free, while the bus to the castle is subject to a fare. Cycling and hiking routes are clearly signposted.
Mobile network coverage is good, but satellite reception was not possible from our pitch.

A paid motorhome stopover for up to 70 vehicles on the outskirts of Eichstätt, located between the Altmühl River and a large car park. The site occupies a separate green area with mostly level pitches, consisting of gravelled grass and meadow surfaces, with some shaded spots.
A cycling and hiking trail runs directly past the site. Eichstätt's historic old town is an easy 15-minute walk away.
Fresh bread rolls can be ordered, and the site offers fresh water, electricity, grey water disposal and facilities for chemical toilet disposal. Toilets and showers are also available, although these are closed during the winter months.
Mobile network coverage and satellite reception are both good.

Our motorhome stopover was located right on the banks of the Inn River, with designated spaces for six motorhomes. The pitches are level and paved, with no shade, but the location is very convenient.
Kufstein's historic old town is just a few minutes' walk away, and Kufstein Fortress is also nearby.
The site offers electricity (€1 per 3 kWh), fresh water (€1 per 50 litres), waste disposal, Wi-Fi and even a toilet. The facilities are wheelchair accessible, and dogs are welcome.
Payment is made at the ticket machine. The fee is €15 per night, with a maximum stay of three nights. The site is open all year round.
A convenient stopover for exploring Kufstein and its historic landmarks.

The village centre is less than 1 km away and can easily be reached on foot.

Plauen played a significant role in the Peaceful Revolution of 1989. On 7 October, just one month before the fall of the Berlin Wall, between 15,000 and 20,000 people took to the streets to protest against the GDR regime.
It was the first major mass demonstration of its kind, and despite the authorities' harsh response, the movement could no longer be stopped.
Today, memorial plaques and an impressive sculpture in front of the New Town Hall commemorate this courageous step towards freedom.

From the Peace Bridge - view of the old town
A free parking area which, according to my app, can accommodate up to 50 motorhomes. However, it is a large public car park without specifically designated motorhome pitches.
We stayed overnight in the rear section along with several other motorhomes and had no problems.
There are no facilities for electricity, fresh water or waste disposal. Mobile network coverage and satellite reception are both good.
The historic old town of Bautzen is just a few minutes' walk away, making this a convenient place to stay while exploring the city.

We took a short break near Kloster Neuendorf, by the B188, to admire this Early Gothic brick church built by the Cistercian Order in the first half of the 13th century.
It is fascinating to see what people were able to build back then, long before modern machinery and construction technology existed. Even today, the church stands as an impressive example of medieval brick architecture.

This motorhome stopover accommodates up to 35 vehicles and is idyllically situated between woodland and water, right on the lake just outside the town. It is open from early May to early October, with arrivals possible daily between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The pitches are grassy and mostly level. However, the popular spots with direct lake views tend to fill up quickly.
The facilities are well equipped. Two sanitary blocks provide toilets, washrooms and showers. Electricity, fresh water and facilities for disposing of grey and black water are also available.
Two thoughtful extras make the stay even more enjoyable: a morning bread roll service and an honesty fridge stocked with chilled drinks.
Malchow's historic island old town is about a 1.5 km walk away. The route takes you past the historic monastery complex and across the causeway into the town centre.

Our overnight stop was the Füllekuhle motorhome stopover, a free site for around ten motorhomes that is open all year round.
When we arrived, all the designated motorhome spaces were occupied. Many campers had simply parked in the adjacent car parking spaces, while some cars were using the motorhome bays. There was little distinction between the two, and the local authorities apparently tolerate this arrangement.
The site itself has a gravel surface and is mostly level. Its biggest advantage is its location: Goslar's historic old town is just a few minutes' walk away, making it an excellent choice for a spontaneous stop.
However, there are no facilities for fresh water or waste disposal.

And that was it for Berlin, in true European fashion, we hopped on a train headed south to Prague. It was a pretty early one, so I got some sleep(not much) on the train.
This was an important crossing point between the east and west berlin at the time. Now it stands as a history of what happened.
This was the final stop, and honestly, the least interesting one. We went ahead and headed to get some food after this.
Third stop for us to see the festival of lights stuff. This one had a whole music number with a chicken and other animals!
Sooooo, what we'd discovered was the Berlin Festival Of Lights event, where they were shining up some of the buildings in cool colors, patterns and other light stuff. Stumbled upon this completely randomly, my favorite part of traveling. The Berlin Cathedral lit up looked so cool, and there was such a massive crowd watching this.
This was our last night in Berlin and I'd just decided that we'd stroll towards Museum Island, it was right there. Little did we know we were about to find something very cool.
I'd known about this art piece for a long time, as it's talked about in history classes. What I had not known(or more accurately, forgotten at this point) is that this was on the Berlin Wall. Seeing it in person is definitely something.
The final day in Berlin had us walking along the Berlin Wall at the East Side Gallery, going to drop individual pictures to map out where they were more accurately along the walk.
I forgot the name of the place I got dinner at but it was certainly a beautiful place. Even saw a place with Nepali food there, which was wild(but obviously makes sense, Nepali people are everywhere).
This was my first sighting of the Berlin Wall. The museum behind it had a lot of information and was very informative. It got dark by the time I got out.

After ten years without a family holiday, we finally had the chance to spend some precious time together on Ibiza.
One of our memorable moments was an evening at Café del Mar. We sat in the shade, watching the sun slowly sink into the Mediterranean while chill-out music played through the speakers.
2005 was a special year for Café del Mar, marking its 25th anniversary. Since opening in 1980, this place in San Antonio had become famous for its spectacular sunsets and carefully selected music. DJ José Padilla played a major role in shaping its distinctive chill-out sound, which eventually became known far beyond Ibiza.
For me, this was also the beginning of my love for chill-out music.
Looking back at this photo today, I realise that it wasn't just the place or the music that made the evening special. It was the time we spent together as a family.

A paid motorhome stopover for up to 20 motorhomes and caravans, idyllically situated in the woods on the outskirts of Bad Muskau. The site is open from early April to the end of October. The pitches are gravelled, mostly level and well maintained.
When I arrived, almost all designated pitches suitable for my vehicle were occupied. Fortunately, the friendly site manager was very accommodating and managed to find a spot for us.
The site offers fresh water, electricity and facilities for grey water and chemical toilet disposal.
The town centre is about 1.5 km away. The nearby border with Poland can be reached on foot through the adjacent park, which is only about 200 metres from the site.
Thanks to its location, the stopover is an excellent base for exploring Poland.

This magnificent Baroque church is closely connected with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who visited Mannheim several times during his life (1756–1791). During his stays in the city, he attended services here.
Built in the 18th century as the electoral court church, the Jesuit Church is one of Mannheim’s most impressive historic buildings. A memorial plaque recalls Mozart’s visits and the city’s rich musical heritage.

Construction of Speyer Cathedral began between 1024 and 1030 under Emperor Conrad II. The magnificent Romanesque church was consecrated in 1061 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As the largest surviving Romanesque church in the world, the cathedral is an outstanding example of medieval architecture. It is also the final resting place of four emperors, three empresses and several kings from the Habsburg, Hohenstaufen and Nassau dynasties.

The TV Tower in Alexanderplatz was cool! They were shining stuff onto it, I wonder if this part wad due to the festival of lights(more pics of that coming soon!).
This station got us EVERYWHERE in Berlin. The train system here is amazing and runs so late! Every 10 minutes even at 4 AM? Wish I had that back home. It's been the best public transit system I've used so far.
Was walking back to the central station and took a different route to check out more of the city. Look at the pretty city!
This was closeby and we didn't know about it and headed here next. Somber place. Saw there was an exhibition with information downstairs and while we were too late for it today, we'd gone back another day to see it. No photos of that out of respect.

Much of Pilsen’s historic centre is built above an extensive network of underground tunnels and cellars. The entire system is said to stretch for around 20 kilometres, connecting cellars beneath the old town. Some sections extend several levels below ground.
In the past, these underground spaces served many purposes. Food and other supplies were stored there, while numerous wells provided the town with water. During times of war, the cellars also offered shelter and a place to hide valuable belongings.
Today, around 800 metres of the underground network are accessible to visitors, offering a fascinating glimpse into the history of the city.

We stopped in Sahagún to replenish our supplies. While exploring the town, I came across this old town gate, which immediately caught my attention. A little piece of history that made the stop worthwhile.

When we arrived in Dole, a local festival was taking place, and the motorhome stopover was already full. Fortunately, the campsite had three additional pitches available as an alternative. They filled up quickly, too, so we were lucky to get one!
We spent some time exploring Dole's beautiful old town. In the evening, we discovered that finding a restaurant table without a reservation was practically impossible because of the festivities.
Despite the crowds and the lack of dinner options, we had a wonderful stay in Dole.

We were only passing through and stayed briefly, but the location looks ideal for hiking and exploring the surrounding countryside.

I really wanted to show my wife the place where I brought my Camino de Santiago to an end. Back then, I was so keen to keep walking that I continued all the way from Santiago de Compostela to Fisterra, at the very edge of the European mainland.
For me, reaching the lighthouse at Cape Fisterra was a special way to complete my Camino. Returning here together with my wife brought back some wonderful memories.

The Brandenburg Gate was real close to the Reichstag Building and we saw it from the audioguide so we headed here. Cool place, and it's insane to think this was built in the 1700s.
We headed to the Reichstag dome after. Really great views and the auidoguide had a lot of useful information that gave the history of stuff as well as pointing out what was where. Great viewspot for the city. If you come here, take the audioguide!
The bust of Nefertiti is in the Museum, and was one of the cool things to see in there. Lots of other stuff in there that I liked, especially the prehistory section.
My motorhome guide listed this place as a designated motorhome stopover. However, a sign on site clearly prohibited parking motorhomes.
I stopped briefly to stretch my legs before looking for an alternative place to stay. This unexpected detour led me to Hachenburg, which wasn't originally on my route.
Despite the initial confusion, it turned out to be a worthwhile detour. I also mentioned Hachenburg in my blog post about this trip.
Sometimes, an unexpected change of plans leads to an interesting discovery!

A small motorway rest area with a restaurant on the A61 towards Cologne. The highlight is the beautiful view over the Moselle Valley and the impressive Moselle Valley Bridge.

After Amsterdam was Berlin. Getting here was a mess. The inbound plane was delayed due to bad weather in Norway, then there was a delay at the airport due to so many planes wanting to leave at once making it so we were sitting at the gate for an hour waiting for clearance to take off. But once we got that, quick flight to Berlin. Then I got there and my train which was supposed to be scheduled to leave at a certain time didn’t leave for 15 minutes after that. I did eventually make it to my hotel but about 2 hours later than originally planned.
We stopped here for a break and to stretch our legs a little. The area also offers some lovely hiking opportunities around several lakes.
Nearby attractions include Altfriedland Monastery and the Napoleon Oak near Karlsdorf.
A convenient stop to take a break and explore the surrounding countryside.

A beautiful, well-maintained campsite right by the Baltic Sea. When we arrived, only two pitches were still available. We chose the smaller one because we had met someone at Cape Arkona who had also decided to leave the motorhome stopover there. Their vehicle was a little larger than ours, so we wanted to make sure there was enough room for both of us.
The reception and sanitary facilities are located across the road in what looks like an ordinary residential house from the outside. The owners are very friendly and explain everything you need to know when you arrive.

This paid motorhome stopover is open all year round and is located in Jasmund National Park on the island of Rügen. The pitches are gravelled and mostly level.
The site offers electricity, fresh water and facilities for disposing of both grey and black water. There is also a kiosk and a fast-food restaurant on site.
The stopover is an ideal starting point for exploring the famous chalk cliffs. You can walk through the beautiful beech forest to the Königsstuhl National Park Centre, or take the bus. The distance from the site to the Skywalk viewing platform, which is wheelchair accessible, is about 3 km.

Be careful when approaching from certain directions, as one of the historic town gates has a height restriction that may prevent motorhomes from passing through.
On this trip, I used Apple Maps instead of the motorhome navigation system. Unfortunately, Apple Maps doesn't allow you to enter your vehicle's height profile. However, I often find that it suggests more scenic routes.
Just remember: the prettiest route isn't always the best one for a motorhome! 😄

Time to start #streetart and #streetartamsterdam. The Art is Not A Crime stuff for the exhibit museum is cool and wish I had time to do it.
Loved them last year, so doing it again! The line went across the bridge and people waited in the rain. It's worth it.
Went to the Rijksmuseum on a rainy Friday in Amsterdam. It was a fun way to kill a few hours. The scale of some of the artwork surprised me.
The Natural History Museum in #Vienna is one of the largest of its kind with 30 mio. objects - prehistory, paleontology, plants, animals, minerals and meteorites. It was inaugurated in 1889 and now has >1mio. visitors per year.
Sitting at the docks was a great way to enjoy the sights and end my first night in Amsterdam.
I spent quite a bit just staring from the bridges out to the city. The canals make the city so unique and is a reason I love to visit here.
Got myself a freshly made Stroopwaffle. Delicious. Strawberries are my favorite fruit and I added them as a topping and they were ok. I still think nothing compares to the strawberries I had in London but the stroopwaffle itself was tasty. Little bit overpriced but I bought it in the main touristy area so kind of expected.
I went to the Anne Frank Museum and saw the secret annex they lived in. Deeply moving place that I'd definitely recommend others go to in order to learn about the history. Lots of things I didn't know were learned during this tour. Take it with the presentation at the start too, that has a lot of high quality information and the guide knows a lot and answered the questions others had.
Was just wandering around when this birb decided to land on the top of this statue, making for a great photo opportunity.
This was the single most strangest statue I saw in Amsterdam. Who is the man riding the goat? Some context anyone can provide would be helpful!
Was walking back to my hotel after some exploring and went into this park. It was pretty cool, didn't realize that ACAB was in europe too, thought it was mostly an American thing.
It was such a great day when I got to Amsterdam, and walking out of Central Station to this view definitely made was a great part of it!
I made it to Amsterdam but got on the wrong train at the station and ended up going the wrong way, away from the city and towards Rotterdam. At least I realized at the next stop and started going the right way!
My first longer break after driving around 270 km through the German countryside, deliberately avoiding motorways.
I took the opportunity to explore the surrounding area and decided to look for a place to stay overnight nearby. That’s how I came across the motorhome stopover in Medebach.
I visited the same stopover again on a later trip and created a separate entry for it. There was one noticeable difference, though: during my first visit, roadworks were still underway. When I returned four months later, everything was neat and tidy, and the construction work was finished.

A paid motorhome stopover located next to an adventure park for children aged six and over. There seem to be waste disposal facilities somewhere on the site, although I didn't need to use them during my stay.
The location is surrounded by nature, well away from any town. Mobile network coverage and satellite reception are both good. The only signs of civilisation come from a nearby farmhouse, where the tractors can occasionally be heard.
At first, I thought I could hear children playing. It took me a while to realise that the sounds were actually coming from sheep. I never managed to spot them, though!

It’s time to hit up Europe and check out a few cities! Yearly long vacation for me, this time for just about a week and a half hitting a few new cities and some I’ve already been to.
It’s the busiest airport in the world and looking at it, I can understand why. Look at the size of this bad boy.
We found this campsite almost by chance while driving through Montalivet-les-Bains. It wasn’t listed in our camping app, so we would probably never have found it otherwise.
As we were travelling outside the main season, the campsite looked rather quiet and almost a little deserted. But after talking to the owner, we learned that the real hustle and bustle only starts a little later in the year.
It turned out to be a lovely campsite, beautifully located right by the sea. Sometimes it pays to simply stop and have a look instead of relying entirely on the apps.

Our journey through the USA began with a flight from Frankfurt via Charlotte to Las Vegas.
We spent our first two nights at the Circus Circus Hotel, giving us a little time to recover from the long journey and get our first impressions of Las Vegas.
And this was just the beginning of our American adventure.

We had no idea that our journey would involve a ferry crossing. We simply assumed there would be a bridge somewhere. Then our sat-nav suddenly announced: “You have reached your destination.” 😄
Only then did we realise that the road ended at the Gironde and that we had to cross by ferry.
So we drove onto the ferry and enjoyed the short crossing from Le Verdon-sur-Mer to Royan. The views across the water were beautiful, and what had initially been a little surprise turned into a memorable part of our journey.
Sometimes the best travel experiences are the ones you didn’t plan for.

On this trip, we were travelling from Galicia through the Spanish interior towards the Mediterranean. Lake Caspe was one of our stops along the way.
At the time, we were travelling with a rented motorhome to find out whether motorhome travel was really something for us. Looking at these photos today, the campsite seems like a perfect place for that little experiment – surrounded by trees and palms, with the reservoir right on our doorstep.
And apparently, the experiment worked. 😉
Just four months later, we visited the Caravan Show and ordered our own motorhome.
Interestingly, we originally planned to buy a semi-integrated motorhome, just like the one we had rented. But shortly before making the final decision, we changed our minds and went for a panel van instead.
Looking back now, that turned out to be quite an important stop on our journey. Lake Caspe was, in a way, where our life as motorhome travellers began.

A beautifully located motorhome stopover without any facilities. There is a restaurant nearby, though, with rather unusual opening hours.
The site is an ideal starting point for hikes in Hohe Tauern National Park. We completely underestimated how early it would get dark. Luckily, there is a shuttle service that brought us back to the motorhome stopover just in time, before darkness set in.

A modern and attractive motorhome stopover in the Puster Valley. It’s not exactly cheap, but in return you get a well-maintained and very clean site. Reservations are not possible.
The location is particularly convenient: the town centre can be reached within a few minutes, and there is a good train connection. From here, we took the train to Innichen and spent the day hiking in the surrounding mountains.

It’s hard to believe how many vehicles of all sizes can fit into such a small site. When we arrived, the gate was locked. We were supposed to register via WhatsApp, but nothing happened.
In the end, the campers helped each other out and shared the access code. “That’s normal here,” one of them told me.
Apparently, it’s not possible to reserve a space in advance. Once inside, the location is quite convenient: the centre of Merano can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes.

Schließlich halfen sich die Camper gegenseitig und gaben den Zugangscode weiter. „Das ist hier ganz normal“, sagte mir einer von ihnen.
Anscheinend ist es nicht möglich, einen Stellplatz im Voraus zu reservieren. Ist man erst einmal drinnen, ist die Lage recht günstig: Das Zentrum von Meran ist zu Fuß in etwa 20 Minuten zu erreichen.

From Merano, we took the chairlift up to Tyrol and spent a wonderful afternoon in the mountains. Fresh mountain air, freshly pressed grape juice beneath the vines, and beautiful views made this little excursion a perfect experience.

Auf unserem Weg nach Meran haben wir hier eine Nacht verbracht. Der Platz liegt direkt an der Brennerautobahn A22 und ist auch als Raststätte Sterzing bekannt. Er ist ideal für Reisende, die einen bequemen Übernachtungsplatz suchen.
Frischwasser sowie Entsorgungsmöglichkeiten für Abwasser und Chemietoiletten stehen zur Verfügung. Toiletten und Duschen können kostenlos genutzt werden. Außerdem gibt es ein Restaurant und einen Laden mit einem guten Sortiment.
Der Platz war sauber und ruhig. Wir haben im Restaurant Pizza gegessen – ein guter Zwischenstopp nach einem langen Tag auf der Straße.

This little bar in Arlington Heights had a NES(didn't look like an original, more like a PI with that case) with a TNMT game loaded up. Played it with a friend. We died at the second level(right at the point you see) but was fun! I'd play it again.
I didn't even know this was a thing, got off the train to meet a friend and we stumbled onto this. It was pretty cool to just wander around and see what we could do!

Wichtige Details zur Wartburg Fast 1.000 Jahre Geschichte: Die Wartburg soll der Sage nach 1067 gegründet worden sein und wurde 1080 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt.
Martin Luther: Der wohl bekannteste Abschnitt der Wartburggeschichte. Nach seiner Scheinentführung hielt sich Luther 1521/22 auf der Burg auf und übersetzte dort das Neue Testament ins Deutsche.
Wartburgfest 1817: Rund 500 Studenten versammelten sich auf der Wartburg und forderten unter anderem einen deutschen Nationalstaat, eine Verfassung und Bürgerrechte. Damit ist die Burg auch mit der frühen deutschen Demokratiegeschichte verbunden.
UNESCO-Welterbe: Seit 1999 gehört die Wartburg zum UNESCO-Welterbe. Sie war die erste Burg in Deutschland, die in die Welterbeliste aufgenommen wurde.

Die Externsteine bei Horn-Bad Meinberg gehören zu den bekanntesten Naturdenkmälern Deutschlands. Die bizarren Sandsteinfelsen ragen bis zu 40 Meter aus der Landschaft des Teutoburger Waldes und sind über Jahrtausende durch die Kräfte der Natur entstanden.
Um die Felsen ranken sich zahlreiche Sagen und Geschichten. Welche davon tatsächlich einen historischen Kern haben, lässt sich heute kaum noch nachvollziehen. Gerade diese Mischung aus beeindruckender Natur, Geschichte und etwas Mystik macht die Externsteine für mich zu einem besonderen Ort.

Ein Schloss als ganz persönliche Sommerresidenz
Schloss Weißenstein in Pommersfelden wurde zwischen 1711 und 1718 für Lothar Franz von Schönborn erbaut, damals Fürstbischof von Bamberg sowie Kurfürst und Erzbischof von Mainz. Interessant finde ich, dass es gar nicht als Regierungssitz gedacht war, sondern als persönliche Sommerresidenz und Rückzugsort – natürlich verbunden mit entsprechendem repräsentativem Anspruch.
Für die Architektur holte man sich damals einiges an Prominenz zusammen. Johann Dientzenhofer war maßgeblich am Bau beteiligt, unterstützt von Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt aus Wien und Maximilian von Welsch. Wenn man sich das vor Augen führt, wird schnell klar, dass hier nicht gerade an der falschen Stelle gespart wurde.
Besonders beeindruckend ist aber, wie viel von der ursprünglichen Ausstattung bis heute erhalten geblieben ist. Das Schloss hat seine rund 300-jährige Geschichte erstaunlich unbeschadet überstanden und blieb von größeren Zerstörungen weitgehend verschont. Vielleicht hat dabei auch die etwas abgelegene Lage im fränkischen Raum geholfen.
Von außen wirkt Schloss Weißenstein schon beeindruckend. Das eigentlich Spannende soll sich allerdings erst im Inneren zeigen. Leider konnte ich bei meinem Besuch nur einen Blick von außen darauf werfen. Ein Grund mehr, irgendwann noch einmal hierherzukommen.

The Zinkenbusch hiking car park is located between Östringen and Eichelberg. It is an ideal starting point for short and longer hikes through the Kraichgau countryside.
They belong to the Corvidae family, the same family as crows, rooks, and jays. They have highly contrasting black-and-white plumage and measure about 45 cm in length.

The Metra train station at Chicago Ogilvie has a nice perspective of the city. Hearing the trains pull in/out can be very loud but cool to see them move so many people around. Is that train brakes in my last picture? Anyone know?

Almost home. In Sinsheim, I left the motorway because a traffic jam had been reported further ahead. Shortly afterwards, I came across this rest area between Dühren and Eschelbach – just the right place for a coffee break.
I took the opportunity to stretch my legs one last time before continuing the final kilometres home on country roads.

Payment is rather unusual: at the entrance, you take a plastic card from a box and place it visibly inside your vehicle. You then put the €5 into the slot where the card was taken from.

The Altvaterturm is more than just a beautiful destination for hikers. It is also a memorial against war and forced displacement.
The tower commemorates the loss of the former Altvater region and the fate of people who were forced to leave their homeland after the Second World War. Today, it stands as a reminder of the past and as a symbol of reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

Die Gebühr beträgt 5 € für 24 Stunden und ist am Parkscheinautomat zu entrichten. Leider war dieser während meines Aufenthalts außer Betrieb.

A good starting point for both short and longer hikes through the Thuringian Forest. Several hiking trails cross here, including the Way of St. James and the Luther Trail 1521.
Martin Luther also passed through this area as early as 1521. On his journey from Wittenberg to the Imperial Diet in Worms and on his return to the Wartburg near Eisenach, his route led through this region.

Wanderparkplatz an der Bundesstraße 84
Guter Ausgangspunkt für kleinere und größere Wanderungen durch den Thüringer Wald. Hier kreuzen sich verschiedene Wanderwege, darunter der Jakobsweg und der Lutherweg 1521.
Auch Martin Luther kam bereits 1521 hier vorbei. Auf seiner Reise von Wittenberg zum Reichstag nach Worms und auf dem Rückweg zur Wartburg bei Eisenach führte sein Weg durch diese Region.

Up to four motorhomes can stay here free of charge, and electricity is also included. Fresh water is available, as well as facilities for disposing of both grey and black water. 4G and satellite reception are good.
The entrance to the site is directly off the main road and right next to the motorhome sign. However, the entrance was difficult to spot, so I drove through the town first before finding it.

Hier können bis zu vier Wohnmobile kostenlos übernachten, und Strom ist ebenfalls inbegriffen. Frischwasser steht zur Verfügung, ebenso wie Entsorgungsmöglichkeiten für Grau- und Schwarzwasser. Der 4G- und Satellitenempfang ist gut.
Die Einfahrt zum Stellplatz liegt direkt an der Hauptstraße und direkt neben dem Wohnmobil-Schild. Die Einfahrt war jedoch schwer zu erkennen, sodass ich erst durch den Ort gefahren bin, bevor ich zum Platz gefunden habe.

A small motorhome stopover for six vehicles on the outskirts of Medebach, next to a sports facility. The site is paved, although somewhat uneven.
Electricity, fresh water and a disposal point for chemical toilets are available. There is no grey water disposal.
Satellite reception and 4G are both good.

This is now my fourth visit to this popular motorhome stopover. Located right in the heart of Bochum, the site is operated by a motorhome dealer and offers 51 pitches in different sizes.
There are facilities for fresh water and waste disposal, as well as modern sanitary facilities with showers, a washing machine and a dryer.
When entering, you receive a chip card which is used to register and pay at the terminal. You can also add credit to the card for extras such as electricity, showers and the washing machine. Any unused credit is refunded when you check out.

The origin of the Votivkirche in Vienna was a failed assassinaton attempt on the young Emperor Franz Josef I. (1830-1916) in 1853. Currently it is decorated with some art installation.
After a short visit to Bonn on my way to Bochum, deliberately avoiding the motorway, I decided to make overnight stop in Odenthal.
It turned out to be a lovely spot, right next to a small stream, outside the village and surrounded by the forest of the Bergisches Land.
There are six spaces for motorhomes on a paid public car park. An overnight stay costs €8. You should be self-sufficient, as there are no facilities for fresh water or waste disposal.
Satellite reception is good, while 4G just about works.

DE Parkplatz Märchenwald – Odenthal
Nach einem kurzen Abstecher nach Bonn auf meinem Weg nach Bochum, bei dem ich bewusst die Autobahn gemieden habe, beschloss ich, in Odenthal zu übernachten.
Es stellte sich als wunderschöner Ort heraus, direkt an einem kleinen Bach, etwas außerhalb des Dorfes und umgeben vom Wald des Bergischen Landes.
Auf einem kostenpflichtigen öffentlichen Parkplatz gibt es sechs Stellplätze für Wohnmobile. Eine Übernachtung kostet 8 €. Man sollte autark sein, da es keine Möglichkeiten zur Frischwasserbefüllung oder Abwasserentsorgung gibt.
Der Satellitenempfang ist gut, während 4G gerade noch so funktioniert.

On our way to Bochum, we made a stop here for the night. The campsite is clean, well frequented and located directly between the Moselle, a main road and the railway line.
It can therefore be a little noisy, but that doesn’t bother me. For €5 per night, the site offers a good basic setup. There is a service point for fresh water and waste disposal. TV reception and 4G were both good.
One small catch: the parking meter only accepts coins.
de Auf unserem Weg nach Bochum haben wir hier eine Übernachtung eingelegt. Der Campingplatz ist sauber, gut besucht und liegt direkt zwischen der Mosel, einer Hauptstraße und der Bahnstrecke.
Es kann daher etwas laut sein, aber das stört mich nicht. Für 5 € pro Nacht bietet der Platz eine gute Grundausstattung. Es gibt eine Versorgungsstation für Frischwasser und die Entsorgung von Abwasser. Der Fernsehempfang und das 4G-Netz waren beide gut.
Ein kleiner Haken: Die Parkuhr akzeptiert nur Münzen.

I didn't know what operation micemeat was, but it's actually quite impressive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mincemeat. It's about a British deception on the Nazis. I am not interested enough by musicals to watch this though.
Durbach lies at the foot of the Black Forest and is one of the best-known wine villages in the Ortenau region. The steep vineyards shape the landscape around the village. Durbach is particularly famous for its Klingelberger, a Riesling with a long tradition in the region.
Winegrowing is also present throughout the village itself. An old wine press is a reminder of how grapes were processed in earlier times. Today, tradition and tourism go hand in hand: numerous wineries invite visitors to taste their wines, and there are several campsites for motorhome travellers.
For me, Durbach is a wonderful example of the Ortenau: wine, the Black Forest and Baden’s way of life, all in one place.

Durbach liegt am Fuß des Schwarzwalds und gehört zu den bekanntesten Weinorten der Ortenau. Die steilen Weinberge prägen das Landschaftsbild rund um den Ort. Besonders bekannt ist Durbach für den Klingelberger, einen Riesling, der hier eine lange Tradition hat.
Auch im Ort selbst begegnet man überall dem Weinbau. Eine alte Weinpresse erinnert daran, wie die Trauben früher verarbeitet wurden. Heute verbinden sich Tradition und Tourismus: Zahlreiche Weingüter laden zur Verkostung ein und auch für Wohnmobilreisende gibt es mehrere Stellplätze.
Für mich ist Durbach damit ein schönes Beispiel für die Ortenau: Wein, Schwarzwald und badische Lebensart auf engem Raum.

Opened in May 2023 after nine months of construction, the Black Forest Line suspension bridge spans 450 metres across the valley. The walkway is 1.20 metres wide and hangs 120 metres above the ground.
Today I crossed it myself. Getting to the other side was quite a wobbly affair – especially when the bridge started moving beneath my feet. 😉
Afterwards, we visited the nearby Todtnau Waterfalls, which made a great finish to the day.

Today we’re exploring the southern Black Forest. Our first stop is the motorhome campsite in Bernau-Dorf. After a short hike, we stopped for a meal at the Bergblick restaurant.
The food was delicious, and it was a perfect way to round off our first little adventure.

Most people know about the Chicago Riverwalk, but not the Southbank Riverwalk. It's much smaller but still a few things to see(the apartments/condos around there mostly). I've mostly seen locals on this path rather than tourists though, lots of people love to walk their dogs here.
Getting stuck behind a freight train can be annoying, but it's really cool to see the different train cars. They move so much freight around, it's insane to think about. Grain, packages, cattle, people, so much!
Yesterday I was back in Heidelberg, a city where I once lived. Much has changed, while some things still feel surprisingly familiar. These photos were taken around Bismarckplatz, where the Old Town begins.
What caught my attention, though, was a small memorial stone near the former women’s clinic. During my years in Heidelberg, I walked this route countless times – yet somehow I never noticed it.
Sometimes you have to look at a familiar place with different eyes to discover something that was there all along.
This charming little lake can be seen when exiting the 408 Expressway, eastbound, looping around towards Orange Avenue in Orlando, Florida (USA). The fountain in the lake is lovely, and downtown Orlando is a fascinating city! 😊
Had parked at the trader's garage and the floors are labelled by commodities that are traded, and this particular floor being the Eurodollar.
Always skaters near here. Cool sight always and love what the city has to offer!

I stopped by the Rhine near Rheinhausen today, mainly to take a look at the current water level. It is still unusually low, revealing parts of the riverbank that are normally hidden beneath the water.
The Rhine is showing a different side of itself right now.

Somone Lagoon is a 700-hectare nature reserve located on the Petite Cote of Senegal, approximately 80 km southeast of Dakar.
Bozen (Bolzano) is the capital of South Tyrol and since WW2 part of Italy. It is not only a beautiful city, but also in it´s South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology the Ötzi mummy is shown.

Ermoupoli is the capital and cultural centre of the Greek island Syros and the biggest city of the Cyclades.

Completed in 1893, it cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth that separates the Peloponnese peninsula from the Greek mainland. It is 6,4 km (4 miles) long and 24,6m (80.7 feet) wide at sea level. Economically it was a failure early on and today with app. 30 ships passing through it per day, it is rather a tourist attraction.

This was my first time actually being inside of the memorial and I hadn't realized the scale of it until today. It's absolutely massive and something worth checking out by everyone.
I didn't realize that the Reflecting Pool was covered up. I'm aware of what's going on with it right now and the terrible renovations that were attempted on it with wild accusations by our government right now. Last time I was here it was such a beautiful sight with so many people wandering around it, and seeing it closed was pretty sad.
I can see why people love this hobby. It was really cool to be right under the flight path and see the planes taking off and landing.
Crystal city was really cool! Nice little place to hang out and eat some food or just relax with a nice background of water. Thought of staying and eating there but ended up not doing that and continuing on.
Didn't have time to check out the interior, but from the outside, it looks pretty. The water was calming.
They'd just opened this one up very recently and got to try it! There was a line but thankfully it wasn't as bad as I heard it could be. Got the one with strawberries and it was great.

Always surprised by how clean it is! Compare it to other transit in the US and this one is so much better.
“Heureka” is a kinetic sculpture by Swiss artist Jean Tinguely that moves without any apparent purpose. It was his first public work, created in 1964 for the Swiss National Exhibition in Lausanne. It stands at the shore of Lake Zurich since 1967. Three times a day it moves for 8 minutes.

There's an active train line at Cowles Bog but also one that seems to have just some freight parked there! Was cool to see multiple trains going by while also the parked stuff are just there.

Die Eremitage in Waghäusel entstand im 18. Jahrhundert als Rückzugs- und Lustschloss. Ein Ort für höfische Gesellschaft, Spaziergänge und ein wenig Abstand vom Alltag.
Heute ist sie vor allem ein schönes Stück Geschichte direkt vor der Haustür – und manchmal fährt man einfach daran vorbei und hält kurz an.

A recreation area with several lakes where you can go sailing, diving, or explore the water by SUP. Or simply go for a swim. At 36°C, it’s a really pleasant way to cool off. 😎
The Computer History Museum in SF is 100% worth going to. So many cool things that you can see like google servers, and yahoo!opoly.
Watched a Planet Earth like show at the Sphere, it was pretty cool. It felt like being in a spaceship flying over Earth.
Somewhere along the road in Illinois near Freeport there was a jet on the side of the road.
Of course it starts at the airport :) Got upgraded last second and that was a great surprise!
