Another day in the mountains

image

I am so privileged to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world the bonny Scotland. Yestarday I decided to go and hike up the 2 Munros Scottish highest mountains over 3000 feet despite the thunder forecast. I knew I have to challenge myself to walk fast.

image

Climbing the steep nose was not as difficult as it looked from the bottom.

image

The mist came out of the sudden from nowhere and I got a bit off the route following the path rather than staying on the ridge.

image

image

I landed up traversing a very steep slope full of grags before I reached the path again. I climb a bit more on a ridge before I reached the summit of A'Chailleach.

image

I met a hill walking party from Glasgow and landed up walking with them. They were very nice people.

image

image

Looks like the mist is lifting.

image

image

image

It looks so much better if you see where you going.

image

image

image

We got to the second summit of Sgurr Breac which in Gaelic means the speckled Rocky peak.

image

image

Now we were going down a steep descent towards the river at the bottom.

image

image

image

Long slog return to the car.

The folks I met offered a nice cup of coffee from their camper van and as I got to the car the heavens opened and I heard the thunderstorm and lightning do happy to drive home. Thank you for reading.

Incredible pictures. It must feel weird to be back in a car after having been in these glorious mountains. Those rock formations, the ones that look like tiles, are so amazing. They look like ice that have broken and slide down a slope. I am intrigued about a word: "most", is it like mist? WHat was the temperature like? It looks sunny and fresh, but in some images it looks like it is still cold

wow you went alone? no fear of thunder girl. Hmm nice way of challenging oneself. I like when you mention that you are privileged to live in Scotland, like the fact that you appreciate it. Really enjoyed Scotland's hill beauty here and when the moist\cloud just came up busting and then you met a group on your way down. I was there with you in step by step up and down and then till the car. Thank you for sharing this and congrats on your curie vote :):)

I wish I had a similar landscape in Estonia as well. I would be so happy to just go on a hike in the mountains whenever I like. You are lucky!

hi @highlandwalker beautiful post !! I love Scotland but I've never trekked in its mountains, maybe next time I'll do it. I'm not an expert hiker but I love the mountain trails, the smell of grass, the green, the woods ... I wanted my family to devote more time to mountain trips when I was little, so that now I could be a "expert" of trekking and camping !! but it is not so ... but in our travels when we can always go for a walk, we like to put ourselves to the test with nature and become one with it !! you are really lucky to live there !! beautiful photos, scotland I remember it just like that :-))

I imagine you have experience to climb, I am the weakest and most fearful person in the universe, seeing this makes me want to climb ... HAHAH lie, I'm still scared, successful with your trips, excellent scenery

Great photos! I like those dramatic skies. I wouldn't probably go hiking in such weather and I admire you for going. It's also nice that you met fellow hikers. It's always good to walk with someone.

You were lucky with the storm then. Last week I also escaped a storm and when I closed the door of the apartment it started to rain heavily :) It such a nice feeling to be inside when this happens.

Thank you for sharing! It was nice to follow you on your hike :)

@highlandwalker, A photo oriented blog, the snaps gives the feeling of an entirely different place that looks like no human inhabitation around. Someof the snaps really gives the feel of a lonely place with the clouds, the pond and the far away mountains. Unless it read that it is 3000 ft hiking which you mentioned in the beginning, no one will realize it is that much of a peak. Infact in my state there is few places that looks like exactly like this that I may post as a blog later

I have a suggestion though, the photos are good especially the first three or four and you could use some simple photo editor tools to make it more colorful so that the rest of the photos might be more effective. Just try it.

Anyhow overall it is a great blog..
