Japanese police departments are investigating fraudulent installations of the CoinHive browser-based miner on users' computers for the hidden mining of Monero.
The investigation believes that cybercriminals since the fall of last year using fake sites forcibly installed on the users' devices a program for the mining of crypto currency. The police suspect three people, including a web designer of a similar site. Suspects claim that their program is not a virus, but spreads online as online advertising.
For Japan, this is the first time that the use of computers for hidden mining is prosecuted by law. One of the suspects has already been fined 100,000 yen (about $ 900) for placing the virus program.
