The Story Behind Today’s Artwork
This is @bitterirony’s and my last weekend living in Leeds. Hopefully it’s only for the rest of the year. We just moved house in New Hampshire two weeks ago, and now here we go again!
I can’t describe how nuts things are. With work, packing, hosting CWH everyday, and preparing for my concert next weekend, we’re lucky we remember to eat.
Today we went across the street to the much-loved Woodside Bar & Eatery. Upon arrival, as we made our order at the bar, we noticed a blackboard that read, “pints half-price when Villa is leading the Spurs.”
Since @bitterirony is a decades-long Tottenham Spurs fan (rough, I know) and teetotaller before 5pm local time, it fell to me to herald Tottenham for him, so I bravely asked for a draft pint of cider. 🍺
With our lunch order underway, I took my delightful golden pint served in the branded Inch’s glass and we selected a table. Once seated, I reached for my phone and realized it was still switched off. It may seem odd to some that at 2 o’clock in the afternoon my phone would be switched off, but this is simply a sign I had outsmarted myself.
I started using this new app called Awake https://structured.app/ Awake is a waking up alarm app that has complications called “missions” that require you to accomplish an agreed upon task in order to shut off the alarm. ⏰
The missions can include something as simple as 10 basic math problems. I find it helpful, but it doesn’t move me beyond the point of working the math problems then putting the phone down and dozing off again. If I were to build a streak of getting up regularly at a set time, I needed to up my game.
So I selected another mission which is an Awake integration with an app called Pushr https://www.digitalminimalist.com/. With pushr, for the alarm to cease, you have to get out of bed and do at least 10 push-ups.
With as exhausted as I’ve been recently, I discovered a cheat from my Awake App. 😈 I found that if I switch off the phone, the Awake app stops & the Pushr app can’t make me do the push-ups!! The only problem is, I can’t turn phone back on until I’m prepared to drop and do 10!
So I found myself in a dilemma. 🤔 How could I wait for my lunch with one eye on the game, but with no phone to check on Hive?
So I called over the manager and said, “look, I’m about to go horizontal on your pub’s floor and knock out these stupid push-ups so I can use my phone again, okay?” Of course, he looked at me like I had three heads and replied, “go for it.”
So, today’s artwork is based on the photo @bitterirony took of me on the floor making good on my commitment with the game playing on the television on the big screen overhead. Yeah, it was weird, but hey, I got the phone working and who knows? Maybe I brought the Spurs good luck. When I was done, they finally scored their long-awaited first goal 🥅 in the fifth game of the season! ⚽️

AI Disclaimer: These daily illustrations take a lot of work even though I am using Chat GPT as my designer inking tool. I don’t start with a prompt like more reasonable people do. I begin fresh every day by selecting some combo of my own sketches, photos, and success elements of previous CWH Wordle illustrations, e.g., the worked Wordle puzzle using Hive-centric words. To date, I’ve yet to create one of these images in less than an hour. Even if you don’t work my original puzzles or visit us at , I hope you enjoy the details built into each digital drawing. ✍️
