Saludos!

Lately, I’ve been going through a personal situation that has brought to the surface a never-ending stream of emotions and feelings—so much so that I’ve come to think there’s a whirlwind of them all swirling through my mind and heart; because sometimes we don’t even understand what’s happening to us—especially when the situation or process we’re going through is compounded by other factors, such as the stress caused by everything around us, like the economy, the lack or scarcity of certain supplies, materials, or tools we need, among other things, as well as the lack of empathy from some people, who don’t support us in those moments.
But let’s turn to the part that affects us most directly: the emotions and feelings we navigate throughout the situations or processes we’re dealing with. I was surprised to realize certain truths that our emotions and feelings reveal to us, as we gradually peel back the layers; that is, as we come to see the origins and development of each one. The thing is, when we feel overwhelmed by something and don’t express it—whether by crying or talking about it—it builds up, and we end up angry at ourselves, because in many cases we’re filled with a sense of helplessness, and the outlet we give to that feeling is anger, rage…
To put it simply, I’ll explain it this way: the emotions we don’t allow ourselves to feel don’t just disappear on their own; instead, they seek other ways to come out, and often they don’t come out exactly as we’re actually feeling them—rather, we let them out in other ways; inappropriately—for example, sadness: when we don’t express it as it is, we might channel it through rage or bad moods, and that’s when we tell ourselves, “I don’t even know what I’m feeling”… but if we look within, we do know—when we calm down and clearly feel our emotions.
That’s why we must try to feel and express what’s truly happening to us—what’s affecting us. In other words, if we’re angry, we should talk about it and not let it turn into pent-up rage; if we’re sad, we should give ourselves permission to feel melancholy and express our feelings without fear of not being heard—to let go of that burden: But if you’re afraid—it’s only human to feel that way—you must also find the courage to face it. It’s not easy, that’s very true, but it truly lightens your soul to let it go, and you make yourself understood by others. It’s their problem if they don’t support you in that moment, but you’ve released that burden from your system, and that brings you great peace of mind.
I’m no expert on the subject, but I’m simply speaking from my own experience and from what I’ve observed in others; they say that emotions and feelings that are poorly expressed or held back make the body sick, but it’s been proven that they also make the soul sick. And if we want to keep our essence alive despite whatever we have to go through, being as transparent as possible about what we feel undoubtedly makes us better human beings and helps us understand others when they’re going through a rough patch. I believe that’s where empathy comes from—in giving ourselves permission to feel and express those emotions so we can recognize in others what we’ve experienced ourselves.
I hope you enjoyed this brief reflection, because the topic lends itself to much more, but in general, this is what I wanted to share with you, my dear friends, and to share my mantra with you: let’s live one day at a time, and remember that it’s only human to feel. Best regards!
