Greetings, beautiful community 🤗 💕
One of the best things about having your own home is the freedom. As many already know, we lost our home; now we are living in a house that isn't ours, and there are many limitations—including regarding food and drink. I never imagined I’d have to make coffee amidst such stress.
We are staying at my mother-in-law's house. She is happy to have us there, but every household has rules; out of respect and consideration, we have to adapt to them, even if we don't always like it.
My brother-in-law has my mother-in-law on a strict diet. There are many foods and drinks she is practically forbidden from consuming, and coffee is one of them. When we first arrived, we didn't know exactly how things worked, but the housekeeper filled us in.
It is strictly forbidden to prepare food that isn't part of my mother-in-law's diet. If I decide to make something outside of that diet, I have to do it on the sly. My mother-in-law can't see it; if she realizes there is coffee, she’ll want some, and that would create an awkward situation we definitely want to avoid.
For this reason, we’ve established a routine. The housekeeper is our accomplice: we buy our own pack of coffee, put it in a lidded container, and store it in her room (or ours if she isn't around). We always try to keep it somewhere my mother-in-law can't see it, since she tends to be quite curious 👀.
In the morning, our accomplice is the first to make coffee; she prepares it quickly, pours it into a mug, and takes it to the bedroom. A little later, it’s my turn: I get up and immediately head to the kitchen to make coffee for my husband and myself—though sometimes he makes it instead. While preparing our coveted drink, we keep a close watch to see if my mother-in-law is sound asleep; usually, at the time we’ve chosen to brew the coffee, she is sleeping very deeply. We’ve been lucky so far, but it is a rather stressful moment 🫤.
Once the coffee is ready, we pour it into a thermal tumbler gifted to us by my dear sister @verdesmeralda, which keeps it hot for longer. That coffee has to last us almost the entire day, so my husband and I drink it in small sips; we don't enjoy it the way we used to. We used to brew coffee up to three times a day, but now—if we’re lucky—we only make it once, and we do so while shut away in our bedroom.
To some, this might sound like a joke, but for us, not having the freedom to make ourselves a cup of coffee is hard. That’s why, whenever we go out to a coffee shop now, we enjoy our coffee like never before—drinking it exactly how we like it, without any rush.

Saludos hermosa comunidad 🤗 💕
