Greetings to everyone, friends of the #EmpowerTalent community! With the topic they bring us each week—especially our dear @angelica7—who invites us to write about: “The Best Outfit.” She points out that as we grow up, we choose the clothes we wear, and time goes on, but there comes a moment when an outfit doesn’t just change what we wear—it changes our lives.
“The Best Piece of Clothing” is about what we do along life’s journey that gives meaning to our actions. Here’s my contribution:
I think that as people, it’s very satisfying to be the center of attention—I mean, not just because of how we look, what we’re wearing, or our demeanor. Of course, these things work in our favor, but it’s even more satisfying when we attract attention not only because of our physical appearance but also because of how we treat others.
Clothes That Aren’t Mine
Elegance comes from within—through kindness and treating others well—so it’s within everyone’s reach. I can be a classy person; of course, it has nothing to do with money or social status, but to be special and unique, I must feel elegant so that others see me that way.
One example is being mindful of my vocabulary; what comes out of my mouth is what’s inside me. If I think that using vulgar words might seem like a way to exercise my right to freedom of expression—to express anger or release emotional tension—those would be habits I’d adopt that aren’t truly my own.
But the truth is that using foul language reveals what I’m really like on the inside; on the contrary, my true freedom lies in avoiding the use of rude words.
If there’s one thing I need to work on...
It would be the same as speaking thoughtlessly about another person—without restraint or respect—criticizing, insulting, or angrily protesting against something or someone. After all, there’s nothing less elegant than seeing someone in “attack mode.” If there’s one thing I need to work on, it’s best to do so in a civilized manner. That way, the people around me will respect me and take me seriously.
Another example is dressing appropriately for my age, my profession, and the occasion; this is part of being elegant—it’s knowing what to wear at any given moment. I don’t need to wear expensive clothes, since elegance isn’t really about money, nor do I need many accessories; a person who is simple at heart is often more elegant.
My best outfit is...
We often misunderstand the word “elegance” if we don’t know its definition, because some people confuse it with fashion or luxury—they even care more about how we dress than what’s in our hearts and how we treat others.
So if elegance stems from one’s qualities, behavior, and good taste, my best asset is my positive attitude, my manners, and what my image projects, as well as having high self-esteem without letting myself be carried away by vanity. And even though I care about my outward appearance, I know very well that I can take the best from what’s good, and this is what sets me apart.
In any case, it’s necessary to work on attitudes and bad habits—things that often don’t get the attention they deserve—and to keep in mind that there are many things that help us project a pleasant image. We don’t need that much money, but we do need a little effort on our part to make the changes we need within ourselves.
When elegance comes from within, dressing for the occasion, applying makeup that complements your outfit and the occasion, and walking with your chin held high are key to bringing out the elegant person we all have inside.
Through the pure and genuine actions of my life
I believe it’s possible to live life to the fullest and be authentic in every aspect of our lives when I visibly and sincerely show what I feel by expressing my emotions, feelings, and the actions of my life in a pure and genuine way.
In any case, if I allow myself to convey my feelings and emotions, it also means that all my daily activities and projects are imbued with that same spirit.
What could be better than devoting myself to what I’m truly passionate about—fulfilling my duties and obligations with the same vigor with which I live my own life?
And best of all, I can achieve this quickly if everything written within me is expressed through my actions, because my words and all my actions toward those around me are the voice of my inner self, and everything is transformed when truth and authenticity reign in my life.
I firmly believe in the power of prayer to ask our Creator for the power to discern the signs of the times, the wisdom to control myself in the face of this world’s temptations, and to avoid all pride and selfishness—understanding that to be elegant, the best “garment” I can wear is pure and genuine actions in my life, toward myself and those around me.
