There are places that fill you with peace and a really nice vibe; you just arrive and enjoy their simplicity, as if it were a much-needed energy boost.
A few weeks ago, my sister and my niece spent a few days with me, keeping me company and helping me out; their visit was such a relief for me—I really missed spending time with my family, and they mean so much to me. Although we didn’t get out as much as I would have liked, we shared many special moments, like this walk to the memorial dedicated to Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, located at the entrance to the city.
My sister had never been here before, which made this visit even more special. When we arrived, we were greeted by this beautiful garden full of fascinating flowers; I didn’t recognize some of them, but I loved them, so I didn’t hesitate to take a few photos of them.
I love this garden because it’s surrounded by mountains and there’s always a nice breeze; plus, the silence here is very relaxing. Many birds visit this garden; it’s lovely to watch them arrive, enjoy the flowers, and fly away. Beyond being a religious site, it’s the perfect place to connect with nature without leaving the city, breathe in the fresh air, gather your thoughts, and give thanks for family and life.
This complex features a small chapel with a simple, minimalist architectural design that is both comforting and neat. It is a popular destination for the faithful, who come to leave mementos, offerings, or messages of gratitude—especially those who have survived or are battling an illness. Sometimes, clinging to something that gives us hope is the push we need to keep fighting and move forward.
We spent some time admiring these mementos, reading testimonials, and taking a few photos at the main monument. After that, we continued enjoying the garden before heading back home on foot. It was a peaceful and relaxing afternoon—a lovely memory shared among sisters and cousins. My son is happy when he spends time with my niece; they have a special bond.
Sometimes we just need to get out of the house, go for a walk, and explore places like this, so if you come to the state of Mérida, I invite you to visit this complex, which was recently opened.
Until next time, a million blessings to your families.
