On our recent motorhome holiday, we stopped off for a relaxed drink and a bite to eat at the traditional Café Böckeler. One of the best things about motorhome life is being able to pull over for a break whenever we spot somewhere. This pitstop was particularly special, though, as it was the pooch's birthday.
The café is right in the heart of Baden-Baden in Germany, a city known for its historic, elegant streets. Being a Sunday morning, the town was fairly quiet with hardly anyone about, giving us a good excuse to grab an outdoor table and watch the world go by.
To mark the special occasion, the birthday boy got his very own celebratory dog biscuit. Normally, he wolves down any food in a fraction of a second without even tasting it.
Today, however, he shut his eyes and took his time, savouring every single morsel. Well... if you believe that, you’ll believe anything! One quick gulp and it was gone in a flash. 🤣
To drink, we ordered two oat milk cappuccinos, including one decaffeinated. They were served with some neat art on top. Flavour wise, they were just okay, nothing extraordinary, but totally fine for sitting outside and relaxing.
The food turned out to be the real standout for us. We had thick slices of toasted artisan bread topped with creamy smashed avocado and a generous portion of fluffy scrambled eggs. It came decorated with black sesame seeds, fresh herbs, microgreens, and a side salad featuring crisp lettuce, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes. It was colourful, fresh, and delicious.
While the coffee was okay, the tasty brunch and seeing the pooch savour his birthday biscuit made it a good stop on our travels. Anyway, half the fun of life on the road was trying out different cafés and coffee spots along the way. Even when a coffee didn't blow us away, we always enjoyed discovering new places and seeing what each eatery had to offer.
