When our cruise ship docked in Cádiz, Spain, a few weeks ago, the sun was out in full force. The city is a maze of stone streets and plazas, which were perfect for discovering on foot. Unfortunately, it was very hot, so we were constantly looking for some shade. Even so, the charm of the old city made braving the heat bearable. Around every corner, we found historic buildings, lively squares, and inviting cafés that added to the character of this beautiful coastal city.
In need of a break, we stopped at the Destino Tapa Bar Café. We were both wanting something like an iced coffee or a cold fruit juice to cool down with. Unfortunately, we found out that most cafés in this area simply didn’t sell these drinks, which wasn’t ideal on a really hot day.
With that in mind, we settled on a hot cappuccino alongside a chilled bottle of water. It wasn't our first choice on such a sweltering afternoon, but sometimes you simply have to make the best of what's available while travelling.
Sitting outside under the umbrella, we took in the atmosphere, although we weren't the only ones keeping an eye on the tables.
There were a few very interested observers nearby, quietly waiting and watching for their chance to get involved.
A flock of pigeons kept us entertained as they helped themselves to crumbs left by customers. They were certainly quite brazen about it, until someone shooed them away. Within moments, they were back again, hoping for more crumbs. Everyone has to eat!
It wasn't quite the iced drink break we'd planned, but after finishing our drinks, we just sat and watched the world go by in the beautiful city of Cádiz, before going back to the cruise ship.
