On a recent motorhome holiday with a friend of mine, we found a lovely spot for lunch in Morges in Switzerland, not too far from Lake Geneva.
It was called La Gazette. The café sat on a bright street with interesting old buildings. It had tables outside on the pavement, so we chose to sit outdoors and enjoy the sunny weather.
The menu had some good, simple choices. For drinks, we had coffee and fresh orange juice. I ordered a strong espresso. It looked very good, with a lovely layer of foam on top. It had a rich coffee aroma and was served nice and hot. The flavour was strong, just as I like it. I was only drinking instant coffee in the motorhome, so it was exactly the sort of coffee I needed.
My friend had fresh orange juice with a glass of water on the side.
We ordered food too. My friend fancied something savoury so went for a toasted cheese and ham sandwich and chips. The sandwich came on a metal plate. The bread was nice and thick. It came with a small dish of dipping sauce and some bright pink pickled red cabbage. The meal was simple but very tasty.
I decided on something sweet to go with my coffee, so I ordered a plate of pancakes. The pancakes were stacked up high with peanut butter drizzled all over them, with slices of fresh banana around the pancakes.
My friend's pooch was with us too. He was very good and sat under the table for a long time. Then he decided he wanted some of the action. Labradors are known to love food, so he popped his nose over the edge of the table, right near the offerings. He looked very hopeful about having a share of our food. I am just glad he does not like coffee because I would not want to share that! After we finished our food, we relaxed for a bit and watched people walk past the café. Morges was a lovely town, and La Gazette was a welcoming café. The sun was shining, the drinks were good, and the food was very filling.
Afterwards, the pooch managed to get a drink of water at the fountain ...
... and wonderful views were just around the corner.
