Travelling through Switzerland and Germany in a motorhome lets you explore completely at your own pace. Autumn in Central Europe has brought out a variety of fungi, turning our woodland walks into proper treasure hunts.
Right from our campsite, we wandered into the woods and immediately spotted a rich red beefsteak fungus growing on an old tree trunk.
Carrying on our walk, we spotted some classic white field mushrooms growing in the grass.
A smooth white puffball which will probably get destroyed by the mower.
The pooch turned out to be a good scale reference, showing off just how big some of these forest giants really were. Walking next to a giant bolete, the pooch looked almost small in comparison!
We even saw our first fly agarics abroad tucked into the grass.
Dog vomit or slime mould spreading over mossy roots. I'm seeing so much more of it this year! Of course, every woodland walk now involves a bit of fungi hunting. You never know what might be hiding around the next corner, and it's always exciting spotting fungi in other countries too. I'm sure I'll see plenty more when I get back home at this time of year.
