Medium: Pencil on Paper
Subject: Portrait of My Father
Artist: Emmiesteve
There are some faces we don't simply draw.
We remember them.
We study the expressions, the quiet moments, the strength behind the eyes, and the stories that a face can carry. This portrait is more than a study of likeness for me. It is a personal tribute to my father.
The Inspiration
My father is one of the people whose presence has contributed to the person I am becoming. Creating this portrait gave me an opportunity to preserve more than his appearance—it allowed me to translate a personal connection into art.
As I worked on the portrait, I paid attention to the small details: the structure of the face, the eyes, the beard, the expression, the shadows, and the gradual transitions between light and dark.
Every part of the drawing became an exercise in observation and patience.
My Approach
I created this work using pencil on paper, building the portrait gradually through shading, blending, and careful control of values.
For me, portraiture is not simply about making a drawing look like someone. It is about trying to capture something that makes the person feel present within the artwork.
The challenge is always in the details—the areas of light, the depth of the shadows, the texture of the skin and hair, and especially the expression in the eyes.
Why This Work Matters to Me
This portrait carries a different kind of meaning because of who it represents.
Art has given me a way to document people, emotions, memories, and moments that matter to me. This particular work reminds me that sometimes the most meaningful subjects are the people closest to us.
A portrait can preserve a face.
But behind that face is a story.
And behind this drawing is mine.
About My Art
I am Emmiesteve, a visual artist exploring portraits, landscapes, nature, emotions, and life through drawing and painting.
Through my work, I want to continue learning how to turn observation and emotion into visual language one artwork at a time.
This is my tribute to my father.
Thank you for taking the time to experience my work. 🎨
