On Friday morning I was up at 5AM and got my post up. I was ready when my #2 intern arrived at 8AM and then spent all too long looking for the list I had made just hours before. Never found it so we headed out to do more fences.
Once we got on the other side of the sandhill, things went pretty quickly, until I hit the multiflora roses. I haven’t been able to take photos due to so much poison ivy and contamination. So I am using old photos.
The top right photo, left center, you can see a small dark spot. Well that has expanded to all the fence posts running off to the left, and then some, 8 in all. I was able to clear of the section around the dark spot, but there are still 7 more of them…
While I was doing that my #2 intern made her way all the way to the tree line and then 2 or 3 sections past it. That’s the lower photo. By the time I got my 1 section cleaned off, I was too tired to do any more, so we quit at 11AM.
We got our double soaping showers and she headed out. I sat down to rest until my #3 helper arrived at 12:30PM. I sent her off to deliver a big box and more of tomatoes and peppers to the Survival Center and run an errand. I got to rest while she was gone.
When she got back we went up to the barn to get the 2 huge white coolers to wash up. But they weren’t in the store room! I was trying to imagine who I had lent them to and couldn’t. So we started looking for them in case they hadn’t been put away where they belonged. We finally found them in the butchershop.
While it was energy draining to look for them, finding them in the butchershop meant they weren’t anywhere near as dirty as if they had been put away properly in the store room.
So she got them wiped down and we got them down in the old root cellar. Then we check the other large coolers and they all needed cleaned up. She got them done and in the old root cellar while I rested in my chair.
Next up was digging up the rosemary. I looked and looked but could only find 1 surviving little rosemary. So it came inside and she made a humidity tray for it. Then we got my #2 intern’s favorite petunia potted up for her to take home on Saturday.
Next we got the glass rain gauge and the birdbath. My #3 helper got the birdbath washed up and I put it away. Finally we brought the fairy in. She will sit in the sink until my general helper can give her the annual bath. Once she’s dried from that, I will put her on her table in the living room and wire her to the wall so some old cat doesn’t knock her over again.
My #3 helper had enough time left to vacuum the first floor and I sat and dozed until it was time to make an early supper. I got the shades pulled and got ready to go out to an event. (This was due to good planning on my part…NOT!)
Tom’s wife had created a dance company 10 years ago that toured this area. Someone had made a documentary about it and that’s what I was going to see.
I had seen one performance they did and it was interesting to see so many of the other performances. It was also cool to see the kids when they were small, because the whole family went to each one on bicycles.
I got home just before 9PM and was in bed at 9:05PM. I was soooo tired.
On Saturday my #2 intern arrives at 9AM and we start prepping the cellar to move freezers on Sunday. My #1 intern arrives at 10AM and she had 1 large shelf to build as we now have 4 freezers going into the freezer room.
There’s also a tag sale in town I hope to go to before we start.
So it’s going to be another long day.
