A Cup of Coffee An Identity
Once again, I’m writing to you while sipping a cup of Venezuelan coffee, but this time—as is my custom—I’ve paired it with a piece of bread topped with cheese; to tell you the truth, I have no idea what it’s called, but around here I know it as a “bolita de queso.” There’s no doubt that the best way to overcome adversity is by keeping our roots, customs, and traditions alive, and that’s how the tradition of having a snack like this becomes the perfect source of strength to face life’s most difficult moments.

A cup of good coffee is like a trip down memory lane, where we recall experiences and loved ones; many of them are no longer with us in this earthly world, but from a completely different plane—and yet, in some other way, they’re always present.

A cup of coffee is also like traveling into the future; with every sip, we imagine a world that may be idyllic, but one where problems don’t exist and successes abound—a temporary space where everything is happiness, progress, and greatness.

A cup of coffee is growing older without even realizing it, since every sip is synonymous with renewed energy, liquid joy, and a brighter future just around the corner. A cup of coffee is offered to our dearest family member, our closest friend, and the stranger who visits us.

Coffee is a way for us to express ourselves through a flavor that defines us and a passion that moves mountains. Globally, Colombia and Brazil dominate the commercial side of the industry, but in my homeland, the flavor of the Andes stands out above all else. That is why I wanted to share these reflections with you today—I believe they bring us closer together culturally and define us as Venezuelans.
