The best thing about each time I visit the municipality of Old Havana is that no matter how many times I walk through the same places, I always find something new, although in reality this place does not even have the name of new, but I always discover some detail that at other times had gone unnoticed, something for which it is always worth stopping.
What I like the most is just walking through the streets. Here there are many museums, parks and squares that hold centuries of history and that treasure the years and the culture of the city, but almost all of them are too well-known places, always full of tourists with their guides who repeat the same stories and curiosities in a script that is heard on each visit. I prefer only to let myself be surprised by the surroundings. To find a building with some solitary plaque that reveals to me a unique and unknown fact, or a secluded park where under the shade of some old tree there is a bust of some forgotten character.

There is also the life in the streets, the people of the most varied trades and ages who mix with the visitors. The street vendors with their cries, the always crowded squares, the musicians and street artists who fill the city with rhythm, and the neighbors who talk from balcony to balcony make each walk a different experience.

The architecture is another of its great charms. The wrought iron balconies, the baroque and neoclassical facades, the interior courtyards with columns and arches, and the cobblestone streets turn this place into a museum open to all. Even so, in the middle of the bustle and the tourists it is still possible to find corners of tranquility. In the great squares such as the Plaza de Armas or the Plaza de San Francisco there is always a corner in the shade where one can enjoy the silence, where time seems to pause and then the mind travels and one can almost feel how life was centuries ago.

And it is that Old Havana is a place where the past and the present coexist, where the people who inhabit it keep alive the identity and the culture of the city. For me each visit is different because there is always a new detail that is revealed in the everyday. It is a magical place.

Cheers, and until next time!
