Happy Friday Hivers!
Before my sister purchased this piece of land, it already had a guava tree growing on it. According to my mother, since the land is just near our home, she knew that no one actually planted the guava tree there. She believes it most likely grew from seeds that were dropped by birds after eating guava fruits or someone who just threw guava in the piece of land. The seeds eventually sprouted and grew into a tree on their own.
It really makes you realize how amazing nature is. No one took care of this tree for years. It simply grew on its own, without anyone planting it or watering it, yet it managed to survive all kinds of weathers. And now, after all those years, it has grown into a big, healthy tree that is finally producing fruit. Nature truly has its own way of thriving, even without human intervention.
Yesterday, since some of the guavas were already ripe, my mother told me that we should harvest them before they started to spoil. As usual, my mother was right. We found one guava that had already gone bad.
We have a variety of guava in our local dialect that we call “Bisaya nga bayabas.” It is a very small variety, and we usually find it growing in the hilly parts of our area.
It brings back memories of my childhood. When my best friend and I were still young, we would often go to the hilly areas after it rained because that was when we could find ripe guavas growing there. We would happily pick and eat them as we explored the area.
Guava was actually one of my favorite fruits when I was a child. Funny how our tastes can change over the years, though, these days, I don't enjoy eating guava anymore.
This variety grows quite big and is naturally sweet. The flesh inside is white, unlike some guava varieties that have pink or reddish flesh. I actually find it interesting how guavas can look so different inside even though they all look quite similar from the outside.
We have a neighbor who had already reserved some guavas from us and said she would buy them once we harvested. So, after picking the ripe fruits, we packed them up and delivered them to her house.
Before we left, though, my mom asked my brother if he wanted to eat some guava. He said yes and picked one for himself and, of course, he chose the biggest one!
When we got home after the delivery, my brother told us that the guava was really delicious. My mom then jokingly said that for our next harvest, we might stop selling them and just keep the guavas for my brother.
Our neighbor who bought some guavas also messaged my mom afterward and said that they were really delicious. Hearing that made us even more appreciative of this unexpected little blessing in our garden.
We have to thank the bird or whoever unknowingly brought those seeds to this piece of land years ago. No one planted or cared for the tree, yet it survived on its own and eventually grew into a tree that now gives us delicious fruits.
Sometimes, the best things in life come from the most unexpected places. What started as a seed that happened to land here has now become a source of fresh fruit, childhood memories, and even a little extra happiness for our family.
And who knows? Maybe there are still more little surprises waiting to grow in our garden.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
