One of the main sources of livelihood in our community is fishing, which is why we are fortunate to have an abundance of fresh fish almost every day. If you visit the shoreline early in the morning, you will see many fishermen busy gathering the fish caught in their nets.
However, it is not always like this, especially when the weather conditions are unfavorable or when there is a full moon. During these times, fishing becomes difficult, and many fishermen are unable to earn an income. For them, these are challenging periods because their livelihood depends heavily on what they are able to catch each day.
Another challenge that fishermen face every time they go fishing is carrying their boats to and from the sea. This becomes even more difficult when the weather is bad and they need to pull their pumpboats out of the water and move them to a safe place. Fishing boats are not light, especially pumpboats, which are now commonly used by many fishermen in our community. It is during these moments that we truly see the spirit of bayanihan in our community.
Whenever a fisherman is heading out to sea and the tide is low, many people in the community are quick to lend a hand. They willingly help carry, push or pull the pumpboat toward the water so the fisherman can set out to sea. You will rarely see a fisherman being left to struggle alone. People simply come together and help whenever someone needs it.
It is truly heartwarming to see how people in our community support one another. This spirit of cooperation and willingness to help is one of the things that makes our community special.
Fishing may be a challenging livelihood, but our community shows that no one has to face these challenges alone. Through the spirit of bayanihan, people come together to support one another, making the hardships of everyday life a little easier and strengthening the bond within our community.
