ENGLISH VERSION | The titans vying for the Spanish throne
After being crowned world champions last July, the Spanish national team has reclaimed its position of dominance in Europe, harking back to the glorious era between 2008 and 2012—a period marked by two European Championship titles and a World Cup victory.
Fourteen years later, under the guidance of manager Luis de la Fuente, Spain is once again spearheading a footballing era that could rival the achievements of its greatest predecessors. However, three other national teams are looking to shake up the landscape with their own distinct sporting projects—each with a unique identity, yet all sharing the same hunger for the crown.
First up is France: the Bleus have decided to replace Didier Deschamps with the long-coveted Zinedine Zidane, who hopes to replicate the sporting success he enjoyed at Real Madrid. He inherits a legacy that includes a World Cup title (2018) and a Nations League trophy from the Deschamps era.
Next is Germany, a team looking to bounce back from a string of sporting setbacks suffered since lifting their last World Cup trophy in Brazil in 2014. Tasked with charting a new course for the four-time world champions is the controversial yet highly successful Jürgen Klopp, who left an impeccable legacy at Liverpool.
Following Ronald Koeman's departure from the "Clockwork Orange," Dutch football was crying out for a revolution; in stepped Spaniard Xavi Hernández—an exponent of the "Total Football" philosophy that once defined the Netherlands national team.
Will Klopp, Xavi Hernández, and Zidane live up to expectations? Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and don't forget to like this post!
