Hola, bienvenidos.
Hello, and welcome. This is my first post in this community, and beginnings like this always fill me with excitement because I’ll get to know more of the people who are active here.
That said, a few months ago I unexpectedly acquired a pet that has really brightened up my life; and although the space it’s in isn't quite what I want or hope for, I’ve decided to keep it there for the time being. Along those same lines, I set up some containers with soil and planted some bell pepper seeds—and let me tell you, I was amazed at how quickly they sprouted.
The first time I noticed them growing was on July 12th—I’m getting these dates from the descriptions of the photos I took back then. Although I’ve tried growing bell peppers before without success—they eventually get hit by a pest that’s been hard to eliminate using natural remedies like soap washes—I’m a bit worried this time, since the plants are already quite large.
From a scientific standpoint, I feel that I prepared the soil well; having the tortoise in that space means that whenever she relieves herself, I add that waste to the soil. I do the same with leftovers—such as very hard squash rinds or fruits and vegetables she refuses to eat simply because she doesn't like them—adding that waste to the earth as well. This leads me to believe that I created a fertile environment for growing bell pepper plants.
A few days ago, my partner—who works with plants—suggested I remove a few seedlings from the pot. The reason is that they’ll eventually stop growing because the root mass will become too dense, hindering their development. I’m seriously considering transplanting some to another pot and leaving just four or five plants in the current one; let me know in the comments if you think that’s a good idea.
Also, on Sunday, while I was cleaning the area where the pet stays, I noticed that the plants were growing but lacked stem strength. So, I took some wooden skewers—the kind we keep at home for making kebabs—and tied the plants to them using scraps of cord from my small business; this way, they could keep growing with some support instead of bending over and snapping.
Oh, I want to point something out: the turtle likes eating the leaves of the seedlings, so it’s always trying to climb onto the planter to see if it can take a bite out of a leaf—I’ve attached photos here, haha.
When I found this community, I was excited because I already had photos of the plants and their growth process in my gallery; I thought, before deleting them, why not make a post about this time in my life—a time when I’ve grown to love watching them thrive and grow by leaps and bounds?
I want to hear from you in the comments—let me know if I'm on the right track with the process or if I should make some changes. Cheers, and happy Wednesday—we're over the hump!
