Curitiba no solo cuenta con hermosos parques y espacios naturales sino que también a lo largo de los años ha creado nuevos espacios que rinden homenaje a otras culturas, esto como parte de su aporte a su historia y su integración a su cultura y ya que esta ciudad recibió muchos inmigrantes de muchos otros países son muchos los lugares que existen en su honor, dedicados completamente para conocer su historia y legado.
Curitiba not only boasts beautiful parks and natural spaces, but over the years it has also created new spaces that pay homage to other cultures. This is part of its contribution to its history and its integration into its culture, and since this city received many immigrants from many other countries, there are many places that exist in their honor, dedicated entirely to learning about their history and legacy.
En esta ocasión les comparto uno de estos lugares históricos, llamado Bosque João Paulo II, conocido también como el Bosque do Papa, el cual no solo sirve de espacio recreativo sino que ademas es un importante memorial dedicado a la inmigración polaca, cultura con gran influencia en esta ciudad.
On this occasion I share with you one of these historical places, called Bosque João Paulo II, also known as Bosque do Papa, which not only serves as a recreational space but is also an important memorial dedicated to Polish immigration, a culture with a great influence in this city.
Este hermoso parque fue inaugurado el 13 de diciembre del año 1980, luego de la visita del Papa Juan Pablo II a la ciudad de Curitiba, cuenta con una extensión de 46 mil metros cuadrados y en el alberga un hermoso y espeso bosque en el que puedes caminar y respirar aire puro, algunas estructuras de madera y mucha historia sobre la cultura de la comunidad polaca.
This beautiful park was inaugurated on December 13, 1980, following the visit of Pope John Paul II to the city of Curitiba. It covers an area of 46,000 square meters and houses a beautiful, dense forest where you can walk and breathe fresh air, some wooden structures, and a wealth of history about the Polish community's culture.
La parte considerada como el corazón de este parque es la hermosa y popular "aldea" que consta de 7 casas de madera, las cuales encontramos al entrar al parque, pero lo que es realmente interesante sobre estas pequeñas casas es que no fueron construidas directamente allí, sino que son estructuras originales del siglo XIX que fueron creadas por inmigrantes polacos tras su llegada a esta región, y luego, con la creación de este parque esas casas fueron desmontadas y trasladadas para formar parte del memorial que rinde homenaje a su cultura como forma de preservar la arquitectura tradicional, para la cual utilizaron troncos de araucária encajados sin necesidad de clavos o tornillos.
The heart of this park is considered to be the beautiful and popular "village," consisting of seven wooden houses. These are found upon entering the park, but what is truly interesting about them is that they weren't built directly there. They are original 19th-century structures created by Polish immigrants after their arrival in the region. Later, with the creation of this park, these houses were dismantled and moved to form part of the memorial that pays homage to their culture as a way of preserving traditional architecture, for which they used araucaria logs fitted together without nails or screws.
Un dato resaltante sobre estas casas es que una de ellas es una réplica exacta de la residencia en la que el Papa Juan Pablo II cumplió su estadía durante su visita a la ciudad de Curitiba. Esta casa cuenta con una fachada blanca bastante sencilla, lo que la resalta del resto de las casas que conservan el color original de la madera de la que fueron construidas.
One striking fact about these houses is that one of them is an exact replica of the residence where Pope John Paul II stayed during his visit to the city of Curitiba. This house has a rather simple white facade, which sets it apart from the other houses that retain the original color of the wood from which they were built.
El interior de la casa blanca hoy en día alberga una pequeña capilla en honor a la Virgen Negra de Czestochowa, la patrona de Polonia.
The interior of the white house now houses a small chapel in honor of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa, the patron saint of Poland.
Tuve la oportunidad de estar en el interior de esta histórica casa y de ver por mi misma lo que en ella había. Es bastante pequeña y poco espaciosa pero dentro pude ver una habitación llena de muchísimos objetos como muebles originales de la época, utensilios tradicionales, ropa y muchas otras cosas, las cuales solo pude observar en el momento, pues, dentro de las casas no se permite tomar fotografías por motivos de privacidad y respeto.
I had the opportunity to go inside this historic house and see for myself what it contained. It's quite small and cramped, but inside I saw a room filled with many objects, such as original period furniture, traditional utensils, clothing, and many other things, which I could only observe at that moment, since taking photographs inside the houses is not allowed for reasons of privacy and respect.
Otra casa que me gustó mucho por su arquitectura fue una que en su interior funciona de capilla, en la cual hay un altar con fotos del Papa Juan Pablo II, velas, flores y unos bancos para tomar asiento frente al altar. Por obvias razones aquí tampoco está permitido tomar fotos pero me pareció un lugar bastante relajante y con un bonito homenaje al Papa Juan Pablo II.
Another house I really liked for its architecture was one that serves as a chapel inside, with an altar adorned with photos of Pope John Paul II, candles, flowers, and pews to sit in front of it. For obvious reasons, photography isn't allowed here either, but I found it quite relaxing and a beautiful tribute to Pope John Paul II.
Otra de las casas contenía muchos algunas vitrinas con muchos libros, todos ellos parecían bastante antiguos y eran de origen polaco.
Another of the houses contained several display cases with many books, all of which appeared quite old and were of Polish origin.
Una de las casas era como un almacén, donde mantienen guardados muchos objetos y herramientas antiguas, en su mayoría objetos de madera y hasta una gran carreta con enormes ruedas, la cual usaban en su época para transportar cosas.
One of the houses was like a warehouse, where they keep many old objects and tools stored, mostly wooden objects, and even a large cart with enormous wheels, which they used in their time to transport things.
Justo en el centro del parque hay varios bancos para tomar asiento y apreciar el hermoso paisaje, pero uno de estos bancos es bastante único y diferente a los demás, pues, más que un banco es un monumento conmemorativo elaborado en granito negro pulido que lleva por nombre Banco de Fryderyk Chopin y fue instalado en este parque como parte de la celebración de los 150 años de la llegada de los polacos a la ciudad.
Right in the center of the park there are several benches to sit and appreciate the beautiful scenery, but one of these benches is quite unique and different from the others, because, more than a bench, it is a commemorative monument made of polished black granite called the Fryderyk Chopin Bench and was installed in this park as part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Poles to the city.
Junto a este banco se encuentra una placa con una inscripción sobre este pequeño monumento que incluye el busto de Fryderyk Chopin, famoso compositor y pianista polaco.
Next to this bench is a plaque with an inscription regarding this small monument, which includes the bust of Fryderyk Chopin, the famous Polish composer and pianist.
Del otro lado de este banco se encuentra una estatua de Nicolás Copérnico, famoso astrónomo de origen polaco y personaje histórico de gran importancia, ganando su lugar en este parque no solo por su orígen sino también como conmemoración de la visita del expresidente polaco Lech Walęsa a esta ciudad.
On the other side of this bench stands a statue of Nicolaus Copernicus, the famous Polish astronomer and a historically significant figure, earning his place in this park not only because of his origins but also to commemorate the visit of former Polish President Lech Walęsa to this city.
Luego de ver todas las casas decidimos adentrarnos en el bosque y a medida que avanzabamos el camino se dividía en 2 o más partes pero al final llevaban a un mismo lugar. Dentro del bosque es bastante frío y tranquilo, hay muchísima vegetación, enormes árboles y muchos hongos cerca del camino, lo que nos gustó mucho porque pudimos apreciar cada detalle del bosque.
After seeing all the houses, we decided to venture into the forest. As we went further, the path split into two or more parts, but they all eventually led to the same place. Inside the forest, it was quite cold and peaceful, with abundant vegetation, enormous trees, and many mushrooms growing near the path, which we really enjoyed because we could appreciate every detail of the forest.
Casi a la mitad del camino dentro del bosque nos encontramos una estatua del Papa Juan Pablo II junto con una inscripción en la parte inferior.
Almost halfway through the forest, we came across a statue of Pope John Paul II with an inscription at the bottom.
Luego de la estatua del Papa en el camino nos encontramos varias estructuras pequeñas de concreto con placas que contenían escritos diferentes salmos en cada una, vimos varios de estos hasta llegar al final del camino y salir del bosque entrando nuevamente al parque.
After passing the statue of the Pope, we came across several small concrete structures with plaques inscribed with different psalms. We saw several of these until we reached the end of the path and left the forest, re-entering the park.
Nuestra visita a este parque fue increíble, amamos cada detalle de este lugar, vimos absolutamente todo lo que contenía y disfrutamos mucho de nuestro paseo por el bosque, sin mencionar que aprendimos mucho de la cultura polaca y conocimos un poco de su historia a través de cada objeto histórico.
Our visit to this park was incredible; we loved every detail of this place. We saw absolutely everything it contained and thoroughly enjoyed our walk through the forest, not to mention that we learned a lot about Polish culture and a bit of its history through each historical artifact.
