Hello, dear Hivers. Today I’m sharing this brief reflection on Hive and my thoughts on it, after more than two years of being regularly active in this great digital ecosystem. This post, which is quite different from what I usually write for my blog, is brought to you thanks to the contest organized by our dear friend and colleague @wiseagent, who invited us to reflect on Hive and answer the question: Why does it still matter to you?
I’ll be as simple, personal, and direct as possible in my answer to this question posed by the Hive Agent. I admit that when I first learned about this ecosystem six years ago, I only heard and read negative things from its spanish-speaking communities, but that was because I was only listening to the biased opinion of a “hater” with certain mental health issues. After several years of trying things here and there, I decided to give Hive a chance in early 2024—a decision that, without exaggeration, saved my life.
Although I’d tried multiple platforms and Web3 projects where I created content, generated income, and became part of a community, none of them lasted more than a year—some didn’t even last that long. But my determination not to give up on my goal of “making a living doing what I love” allowed me to see things differently, and the shutdown of the last platform I was on before coming here to Hive made me reconsider things. I needed a space—a place that was incorruptible, stable, and functional.
Hola, queridos Hivers.

And no matter what the people around me said, I came to the conclusion that Hive was exactly what I needed. Here, I was able to not only create my own blog—my own space to share what I love—but I also grew as a content creator, received advice, built connections, and made a name for myself that has gradually become recognized within this community. While things didn’t always go perfectly for me on Hive, I won’t deny that I fared much better than many other users who started out with me.
This is because I already had experience in what I was doing, how to do it, and how everything works. On top of that, I always experimented, did my research, and took the risk of reaching out and seeking help from communities and projects that support small, little-known creators like I was at the time. The latter was harder for me than learning Markdown and HTML for my posts, since I’ve always been bad at socializing. However, I realized that this was also an essential part of success on Hive, since it’s clearly a social ecosystem.
I know that Hive encompasses much more than just the social aspect, but what I mean by this is that—as a content creator—if I want to do well here, I have to make myself known, get to know others, and strike up conversations; build relationships; and commit to myself and to the communities where I’m supposed to live my life as the real human being that I am. Obviously, I’m not just going to show up, post this, and disappear just like that. I identified this and many other mistakes and took them into account so as not to repeat them on Hive.

But in the end, all this effort and commitment I’ve dedicated—and continue to dedicate—to Hive to this day (even much more than before) stems simply from the same goal or dream I mentioned above: “to make a living doing what I love.” I’ve managed to achieve this to some extent, but only to a small degree. We all know that you can’t live in Venezuela on a monthly income of around $25. That’s why I have to work harder to maximize and expand my efforts and what I offer on Hive if I want to achieve better results.
However, I know I shouldn’t rely solely on Hive for everything; rather, if I want to achieve “success” as a creator, I must open my mind to other alternatives that will help me at least build my own community and grow in different ways. Hive is not currently a good source of sustainable income, and I fully acknowledge that. However, my perspective on this has changed significantly since the beginning of this year due to everything that has happened here, in my country, and around the world. I realized that success equals growth—but not just any kind of growth.

We’re talking about an increase in power, in HP, and in real value on Hive—not just the number of votes we receive on our posts. The importance I place on Hive today is rooted in a space, a brand, a place where I can identify with it and where I have a voice, power, and presence in this vast digital world. For me, Hive is a place to unwind, share, interact, learn, grow, save, and secure my money and content forever. Hive is much more than just a place to make money; it’s everything a user, creator, businessperson, entrepreneur, and developer needs.
That said, while it’s true that I still have a long way to go to reach my main goal on Hive, I’ll gladly continue on this long and grueling journey that I’ve been on for over two years now. I’m doing this not only for myself, but for my future, my security, and because it was here on Hive that I managed to find the place I needed to safeguard what I never gave up on, even during the worst moments of my life. Of all the things I abandoned and left behind, Hive is the only thing of value that is part of my current life and identity, and I have no intention of ever abandoning it.

So tell me, what does Hive mean to you, and why does it still matter to you? I invite you to participate in this contest by answering these questions.
