There are songs that arrive all at once, and there are songs that slowly reveal themselves over time. Inside of You and Me is one of those journeys. The lyrics came first, exploring the idea that the light we spend our lives searching for has never truly been somewhere else. It has always been waiting beneath our fears, our stories, our wounds, and our triumphs. This song is about remembering that what we seek in the world is often already alive inside each of us. The musical journey began with me building a simple foundation using acoustic guitar and drums. After finding an instrumental direction that resonated, I brought the pieces into my studio where I spent hours cutting, reshaping, arranging, and rebuilding the song until it felt like it had found its own heartbeat. A rough vocal was laid down, and that unfinished version was sent to the incredible Makis Gibs. Makis returned the song with four beautiful electric guitar performances that completely transformed the atmosphere. His guitar doesn't simply accompany the music, it speaks. It breathes. It answers the vocals with emotion and gives the song a soaring life that simply wasn't there before. His instinct for melody and restraint continually amazes me, and once again he elevated one of my songs far beyond what I could have created alone. After receiving Makis' guitar tracks, I completed the lead vocals and harmonies before handing everything over to Brian Grass, who once again poured countless hours into a detailed mix of every individual element. Brian has an incredible ear for space, balance, and emotion, and his patience helped shape this song into the powerful, expansive sound you hear today. His work behind the scenes often goes unseen, but this collaboration simply would not be what it is without his dedication and talent. Following Brian's final mix, the song received its master in BandLab. Once the finished version was complete, Makis graciously returned to record an updated lead guitar performance that perfectly matched the final production. The visuals became their own journey. I filmed my own performance here at home while Makis filmed his guitar performance from his side of the world. Around those real performances I built a visual story using places that have genuinely shaped my life, locations I've walked through, stood within, and experienced personally. The Oregon coastline. Lava Beds National Monument. Places that carry memories and meaning for me. Using those photographs as inspiration, I created dreamlike moving scenes that echo those real locations. After bringing the still images to life, they were woven together with the live performances using layered overlays, dissolves, and acid-burn transitions that allow memories, dreams, and reality to continually bleed into one another. It became less about telling a literal story and more about expressing how our inner landscapes and outer journeys constantly reflect each other. To me, that is what Inside of You and Me is really about. No matter what we believe... No matter where we've been... No matter how broken we sometimes feel... The rain falls on all of us. The sun rises for all of us.
Perhaps what we're searching for has been quietly waiting inside of us all along.
