Hello to all my friends at Hive DIY! Today, I invite you to join me for a quick, three-step tutorial on making a simple yet lovely pencil case. It’s hassle-free and requires so few materials that anyone—even a child—can make it 🤭.
Pencil cases are everyday objects that rarely get the attention they deserve, yet they are fundamental tools for any creative person; these organizers hold the essential supplies we need for drawing, painting, writing, or creating art. Their versatility is such that they can easily be transformed into makeup bags or craft supply kits. Ultimately, the most important thing about a pencil case is its ability to carry everything we need wherever we go, ensuring our tools of inspiration are always within reach. Ever since I learned to make my own organizational supplies, I’ve focused on creating items that are useful, quick, and easy to assemble. I usually try to keep all my materials in one place, but I often find I run out of space. Now that I have more colors and markers—plus scissors—space constraints and clutter have become a problem. That is why I decided to make a new, larger, eye-catching pencil case myself, using a beautiful, soft scrap of fuchsia fabric.

Paso 1/Step 1
To make the pencil case, you need one or two pieces of fabric to form a rectangle; since the piece I had was already rectangular, I proceeded to sew on the zipper, stitching it in a straight line—or as evenly as possible—along each side.
Paso 2/Step 2
Then, using a ruler, I measured two centimeters from each side at the bottom corners to mark out small squares; I cut these out and began sewing the sides of the pencil case, leaving the cut-out corner areas unsewn for the moment.
Paso 3/Step 3
Now I sewed the bottom corners of the pencil case; this part provides the case with structure, so I aligned the edges to allow for a straight seam and sewed each side.

And that’s a wrap, friends! Let me know in the comments what you think. For the pencil case, I basically made use of the entire rectangular piece because I wanted something spacious, and the best part is that I didn't need to buy expensive materials from scratch; instead, I repurposed fabric scraps to create something new and useful. This practice helps reduce textile waste and shows that sustainability and functionality can go hand in hand. It turned out really roomy, and I’m sure it will be incredibly useful—now all my drawing supplies will fit inside. If you liked this idea, feel free to follow the step-by-step instructions for this easy sewing project. Bye for now—hope to see you soon!
