Hello, friends of this beautiful community and Hive! Today, I’m going to show you how I made a basic, personalized crop top. I wanted to create it myself—despite having limited sewing knowledge—but I was confident I could pull it off. Once again, I invite you to join me in this project and follow along with the step-by-step process.
When I create my own pieces, I always aim to give them a unique personality; I applied this same approach to this crop top. I wanted a style that wasn't too short, so I chose a basic pattern—which also made the sewing process easier for me. Then I looked for fabric; I should mention that the materials came from my mom, who runs a clothing manufacturing business and has plenty of fabric scraps. Among the scraps, I found some black fabric and a piece of burgundy lace. I decided to combine the two by layering the lace over the black fabric; I really liked the look, as it felt elegant.

Paso 1/Step 1
So, I used one of my own crop tops as a guide for this new one. I took the black fabric and folded it in half to mark out the shape—making sure to fold it along the direction with the most stretch—and cut out the two pieces; with that, this part was ready.
Paso 2/Step 2
Next, I moved on to cutting the lace sections as well; I cut two pieces identical to the crop top piece.
Paso 3/Step 3
Once all the top's components were ready, I proceeded to sew the burgundy lace to the black fabric, stitching along the edge of the right side of the material. After sewing each piece, I turned them right-side out so the seams were concealed on the inside, with the two fabric layers joined together.
Paso 4/Step 4
Now, pin each side of the crop top in place so you can sew as evenly as possible; I started by sewing the sides where the shoulder begins.
Paso 5/Step 5
Having already made progress on the crop top, I moved on to sewing the neckline; I used a piece of black fabric and took measurements from the reference crop top, then sewed it around the neck, stretching it slightly—but not too much—so it would sit properly.
Paso 6/Step 6
Finally, I sewed the sides of the crop top and hemmed the edge, and with that, the crop top was ready.

And so, friends, this crop top is finished—simple yet elegant. I managed to create a lovely garment using very little fabric. Now, let me know in the comments what you thought of the idea; I look forward to seeing you in the next post, where I hope to show you something different.
