It is so hard to believe that fall is upon us. All the flowers have got to be cut back and the annuals pulled. We have been working on different gardens surrounding the house.
The shade garden underneath the Kousa Dogwood tree had impatiens planted in early spring. The deer chomped them practically to the ground, but I laughed and said they would just branch out, and they sure did.
Then this past week the deer decided to eat most of them to the ground, once again. I decided to start pulling up the plants, but only got half the garden done before I was worn out. Perhaps today, hubby and I can finish it off together.
The Impatiens surrounding the porch were removed too because we will be putting up the plastic around the porch for the winter. It has to be done, within the next two weeks before hubby's knee replacement.
All the beds in the vegetable garden got top-dressed with a load of 3-year-old manure.
We know a guy who runs a horse farm, and he willing lets us come and get manure any time we need it. That really cuts down costs on amending the soil each year. The plants love it, too!
We are still working daily to remove the soil from the large garden where the Lilac's grew. Removing that is very tedious and we are half way through it. Next spring we hope to have it all removed and turned back into lawn. Hubby should be recovered well by then.
I know when the fall crocus blooms that cooler weather is fast approaching. Today, we are going to spend as much time in the gardens as the body allows. Hopefully, we can get most of the beds done for the season. We have three large ones left to do yet. Then when the raspberries finish, I have to cut them back and thin a few canes out. That will probably happen towards the end of next week.
Happy fall gardening everyone!
