First let me say that today was actually a pretty nice day. The sun was out, it wasn't too hot, I got to go to church, and on my walk around the park I got a beautiful view of Mount Baker, the fountain in the park, and even a tiny little rainbow in the fountain.

As always most of my steps were from walking the dog. However, shopping also added some steps to the count today. Getting about 13K steps isn't bad if you ask me.
What did I buy? Well, the only two ingredients actually necessary to make Soy Milk.

First up of course is actual soy beans. They are surprisingly hard to source at local stores but at the bulk foods store they have it and it is even on sale once a week if you bring your own container. I brought my own and $0.34/100g isn't a bad price :)
The other ingredient for Soy Milk is a little bit of sugar. Yes you also need water but I'm not buying that to make my soy milk.

I was pleasantly surprised that the small 2kg bag was the one that was the best deal. I was thinking of buying the 10KG bag for $15 which isn't bad at 15 cents per 100g. However, with the 2kg bag for $2? That's 10 cents per 100g (a savings of about 50% depending on how you calculate things).
How much does it cost to make 2L of Soy Milk?
- 140g Beans (3/4 cup)-- $0.47 cents
- 70g Sugar (1/3 cup)-- $0.07 cents.
$0.54 cents for ingredients and probably less then $0.06 cents in electricity.
$0.60 cents/liter
Considering regular milk in 4L jugs if about $6 paying $2.40 to make Soy Milk is way cheaper.
Anyways, that's my thought for today. Figuring out nutritious food to eat is important and tomorrow I'll mention other things I'm buying and why :)
Ohh...
Why soy milk? Compete protein for an inexpensive price. Protein being very important for muscle development and growth. Also it has fewer calories than regular milk or whole milk which hopefully adds up to some weight loss in the future :)
Thanks for dropping by.
Until tomorrow
