Personal opinion
For me, this is one of Will Smith's most emotionally resonant and best-acted films. It's one of those movies where you cry with each scene, especially the most emotionally impactful ones. The film is structured in such a way that you feel the character's frustration, the anger and helplessness of everything falling apart, and then, near the end, you can finally breathe and cry for having made it, for having released those heavy burdens carried throughout every scene. Another thing I must applaud is that the script doesn't sugarcoat poverty. The film functions as a mechanism of constant tension, as I just highlighted: the viewer feels Chris Gardner's financial suffocation in every scene, even though it might seem like it all boils down to individualism. What ultimately prevails here is a father's desperate urgency to provide stability for his son.
The actors' performances were very well executed. Will gives a masterful performance because he works from a place of restraint; we see a man who swallows his pride, exhaustion, and fear to project confidence to his son. His eyes reflect the humiliation of the shelter line, but his posture remains firm. His son Jaden also did an excellent job, bringing genuine tenderness and a look of blind trust to his father that elevates the dramatic weight of each scene.
Something else I loved about this film was that, instead of idealizing the city, it uses a somewhat grayish and cold color palette, which draws you more into those heartbreaking and tense moments. And finally, let's talk about the message, which goes far beyond simply suggesting that happiness is money—no, obviously not. The message of "if you have a dream, you have to protect it" is universal and deeply motivating. What sustained this man was his attitude; he never stopped being grateful, never forgot to be respectful, and above all, in his moments of greatest despair, he gave his son happiness despite his circumstances. He managed to find joy, so it's not just the destination, but how you navigate the journey.

Ya para finalizar este mes del padre, quiero concluir con una película que, además de tratar la figura de un padre que da todo por su hijo, también vemos la resiliencia, así que, me pareció muy oportuno de hablar de este filme, ya que, es el tipo de historia que no solo te hace llorar, sino te dan esa sensación de esperanza, de la luz al final del túnel.

Opinión personal
Para mí, es una de las películas más emotiva y mejores interpretadas de Will Smith, es de esas que lloras cada vez con su escena más impactante al nivel de las emociones, esta película la estructuran de tal manera que un sienta la frustración de su personaje, la rabia e impotencia de que todo se viene abajo, para ya llegando al final, tomar ese respiro y llorar por haberlo logrado, por el haber soltado esas cargas tan pesadas que llevado en toda escena. Otras de las cosas que debo aplaudir es que, el guion, no endulza la pobreza, la película funciona como un mecanismo de tensión constante, como lo que acabo de resaltar: el espectador siente la asfixia económica de Chris Gardner en cada escena, aunque quizás sienta que, todo se reduce a individualismo, aquí lo que gana la urgencia desesperada de un padre por dar estabilidad a su hijo.
Las interpretaciones de los actores fueron muy bien ejecutadas, Will hace una interpretación magistral porque trabaja desde la contención; vemos a un hombre que se traga el orgullo, el cansancio y el miedo para proyectar seguridad ante su hijo, sus ojos reflejan la humillación de la fila del refugio, pero su postura se mantiene firme. También su hijo Jaden hizo un excelente trabajo, aportando una ternura genuina y una mirada de confianza ciega hacia su padre que eleva el peso dramático de cada escena.
Algo que también me encantó de esta película fue que, en lugar de idealizar la ciudad, se juega con una paleta de colores un tanto grisácea y fría, lo que hace que te introduzca más a esos momentos desgarradores y de mucha tensión. Y, por último, hablemos del mensaje, que va mucho más allá de querer resaltar que la felicidad es el dinero, no, obviamente no es eso, el mensaje de "si tienes un sueño, tienes que protegerlo" es universal y profundamente motivador, ya que si realmente vemos lo que mantuvo a este hombre fue su actitud, nunca dejo de agradecer, nunca se olvido de ser respetuoso, en los momentos de mayor desesperación, sobre todo, darle a su hijo felicidad aun bajo la situación en la que estaba; el logró encontrar alegría, por ello, no es solo el destino, sino como atraviesas ese viaje.
Puntos positivos…
- La química y autenticidad actoral: El hecho de que Will y Jaden Smith fueran padre e hijo en la vida real le da a la película un corazón legítimo.
- La magistral actuación de Will Smith: Logra un equilibrio perfecto entre la vulnerabilidad extrema y una fuerza mental inquebrantable.
