Cormorants and Hoarfrost / Kormorane und Raureif

Last Sunday I promised to show the two cormorants I have seen on the island in larger versions today.

Am vergangenen Sonntag hatte ich versprochen, heute die beiden Kormorane, die ich auf der Insel gesehen habe, auf der Insel in größeren Versionen zu zeigen.

I only had my 70-200mm lens with me on this day and the island and the cormorants were unfortunately a bit too far away. A few days later I went there again at about the same time, but there was neither fog nor cormorants at the lake.

Ich hatte an diesem Tag nur mein 70-200mm Objektiv dabei und die Insel beziehungsweise die Kormorane sind leider doch etwas zu weit weg gewesen. Ein paar Tage später bin ich um etwa die selbe Zeit nochmals dorthin gefahren, aber weder gab es Nebel, noch waren Kormorane am See.

For this reason, I first show the photos from last Sunday. Because of the fog, the photos look softer and somehow have a painterly effect, at least in my humble view.

Aus diesem Grund zeige ich zuerst die Fotos vom letzten Sonntag. Durch den Nebel schauen die Fotos weicher aus und haben irgendwie einen malerischen Effekt, zumindest meiner bescheidenen Ansicht nach.

Since there were no cormorants at the lake, I do know a place not far away where I've always seen some of these big birds: trees on the opposite side of the reservoir.

Nachdem am See keine Kormorane zu sehen gewesen sind, weiß ich aber nicht weit entfernt einen Ort, wo ich bis jetzt immer einige dieser großen Vögel gesehen habe: Bäume auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite des Stausees.

The birches and a few neighboring trees apparently serve as a meeting place for the birds, because there were many cormorants each time.

Most of these black birds have been sitting in the surrounding trees and some on the birches. The distance to the other side of the reservoir was also almost too far for my 150-600mm lens to take hand held photos, and because of the relatively dark background, the black birds are quite difficult to recognize.

Die Birken und ein paar Nachbarbäume dienen den Vögeln anscheinend als Versammlungsplatz, denn jedes Mal waren dort viele Kormorane.

Die meisten der schwarzen Vögel sind in den umliegenden Bäumen gesessen und einige auf den Birken. Die Entfernung bis zur anderen Stauseeseite war auch für mein 150-600mm Objektiv fast zu weit, um aus der Hand zu fotografieren, und wegen dem relativ dunklen Hintergrund kann man die schwarzen Vögel nur schwer, aber doch erkennen.

The meeting seemed to have just ended when I arrived with my camera because a lot of the birds flew away at that moment and only a few stayed. Otherwise, the birches and the other trees are mostly full of birds.

Die Versammlung schien gerade zu Ende gegangen zu sein, als ich mit meiner Kamera angekommen bin, denn viele der Vögel sind in dem Moment weggeflogen, und nur ein paar sind hocken geblieben. Sonst sind die Birken meistens vollbesetzt von Vögeln.

Ha! Those birds were smart to fly when they saw you coming sir johannpiber! Most creatures do don't they? What are those things, are they fishing birds? They look to be the size of a hawk or eagle?

Great photos @johannpiber, beautifully soft,as you describe that yourself. And you right they're looks like paintings. I am surprised to see cormorans in the winter time in the Alps. I always thought that this birds migrate south for winter.

I know that you will read this in the morning so you will need some !COFFEEA . and maybe some !BEER for your lunch break 😉.
