The thief and the painter in this documentary end up forming an unusual connection, when the artist offers to paint the gangster, who stole two of her paintings.
The power of art and empathy are explored throughout this true story, yet the film does not shy away from portraying the suffering either.
As a writer, I think I’m especially susceptible to stories about art as therapy — how it can save the artist’s life, first, and transform that of the viewer.
In this documentary, I think it's fair to say there's something refined and artistic in the thief, as well as darkness/ destructiveness in the artist that draws these two together and makes them soul mates.
