So last year a show I described as frustrating to watch was The Case Study for Vanitas. You'll notice that since I stopped season two at episode seven, I think you know what my end conclusion of this show was. I don't want to just repeat myself here because all the problems and highlights are the same. So here is the review of season one, and I'll just go into why season two failed to keep me.

The thing I had to ask myself is how worth it would it be to keep watching a show focused on such an unlikable character as Vanitas. He isn't a character I liked or even found interesting as a character. Yes, the backstory of him and the Book of Vanitas was interesting, but the problem is it was attached to a guy I cannot find a way to like in any way. He isn't funny, he isn't charming, he's just not likable at all. I don't want to root for this guy, and it makes the show hard to enjoy. Of course, this is going to vary from person to person, so I still suggest giving the show a try and deciding if you like him or not. If you do, the show will be a lot more enjoyable for you.
Because there is a lot to like about it. There are some great side characters, some interesting plots and twists, and some fantastic visuals. Charlatan is one of the most interesting-looking group of villains I have seen in any anime I have watched this year, and they seem legitimately threatening. Badly timed comedy and the show focusing on one of my least enjoyed characters in any show I've seen this year kills it for me though.
