The first lofi songs I ever listened to came from my wife back when we were still dating. Lately, I’ve gone back to the genre on my own, and this track has become one of my favorites right now.
It doesn’t seem like I’ll get tired of it, because every time I play it, it feels like pure peace inside my head, as if everything that was a problem for me simply vanished until the song ends.
And that’s precisely what the song is about: the author makes us understand that even though happiness isn’t just around the corner, being calm and at peace is also a success worth aspiring to. This is summed up in the chorus, when something as simple as two grapes in a pocket is enough “to feel good,” for the song’s protagonist.
It’s the first time I’ve heard the name Pale Jay, the artist behind this work, which—despite being minimalist—doesn’t stop being a masterpiece. The song was released in 2021 and is part of his first record Celestial Suite, and I think it perfectly matches his mysterious masked style.
His voice in the song is key to transmitting the intended message, because without that soft, almost raspy tone, I might not have been so drawn to it.
The only thing I regret about Dos Uvas is not being able to enjoy it for a few more minutes. Its length is too short for my taste. This isn’t a criticism, but rather a personal complaint about the pleasure it gives me.
Of course, if it were a bit longer, it might lose its essence, and maybe that’s why Pale Jay kept it at those three minutes and a few extra seconds.
