[MOVIE] Landlady: Everyone Feared Her, But Nobody Knew Her Pain

‎Sometimes, the person everyone sees as troublesome may actually be carrying a lot of pain inside. This was one of the things that came to my mind while watching Landlady. I recently watched this movie, and honestly, it was an interesting one because at first, I saw the landlady as just a troublesome woman who enjoyed fighting with everyone, but as the movie continued, I started understanding that there was more behind her behaviour. At the same time, some of the decisions she made later in the movie really made me angry. ‎ ‎The movie is about a lady who is always having problems with her tenants. She fights with almost anyone who comes her way, and everyone in the compound is scared of her because even a small mistake can make her send you out of her house. People in the compound already know her as a troublesome woman, and even people outside the community know about her behaviour. Nobody wants to mess with her because they know she does not take things lightly. ‎ ‎ ‎But what I found interesting was that behind all the shouting and fighting, the landlady was actually a very lonely woman. Whenever she was alone, she would cry bitterly. She was already a grown woman, but she did not have a man who wanted to marry her. Her relationship with her father was also very painful. Her father did not show her the love she deserved. He loved her sister and took good care of her, but when it came to the landlady, he treated her badly. He insulted her, called her a useless daughter and even said that he regretted giving birth to her. Those words had clearly affected her deeply. ‎ ‎ ‎For me, this part helped me understand why she had become so bitter. I am not saying that fighting with everyone was right, but when someone grows up hearing hurtful words from the person who is supposed to love them, it can affect the way they see themselves and other people. She was looking for love and acceptance, but instead of getting it from home, she kept looking for it in the wrong places. ‎ ‎There was a particular day when the landlady met a man who told her that he loved her and wanted to marry her. The man was actually deceiving her because he was already married, but he lied to her and told her that he was single. One day, he invited her to his house, and she went there believing what he had told her. While they were together, his wife discovered them. She called people, and they started beating the landlady badly. They were so angry that they almost killed her because they thought she knowingly went after a married man. The painful part was that she did not even know the man was married. ‎ ‎While the crowd was beating her, one of her tenants who had always been fighting with her happened to pass by. This was someone she had insulted many times before, but when he saw what was happening, he did not remember all their past fights. He rushed there and saved her from the crowd. ‎ ‎ ‎This was one of the parts I really liked because sometimes the person you least expect can be the one who helps you when you need it most. The landlady and this tenant had never really been on good terms, so I did not expect him to be the one to save her. After that incident, their relationship started changing. She opened up to him about her life and told him about how her parents, especially her father, had treated her. The tenant listened to her, encouraged her and gave her the kind of attention she had been missing. ‎ ‎From there, they slowly became close friends. Honestly, I found their relationship interesting because these were two people who were always fighting before, but now they could sit together and talk peacefully. After some time, their friendship became something deeper. The tenant fell in love with the landlady, and she also fell in love with him. ‎

‎The landlady already had a painful past with another man. Her former boyfriend had gotten her pregnant and then disappeared, leaving her to raise their little girl alone for a long time. But just when she had started finding happiness with the tenant, the ex-boyfriend suddenly returned. He started begging her and telling her that he had not really abandoned her. He claimed that he went away to make money so he could come back and take care of her and their child. Unfortunately, she believed him. ‎ ‎This was where I started getting angry with the landlady because I felt she should have been more careful. After what the man had already done to her, I did not understand why she trusted him again so easily. She secretly went to meet him without telling the tenant. When she got there, the ex-boyfriend tried to have sex with her, but she refused. He then raped her, and she later became pregnant again by him. ‎ ‎I honestly did not like this part at all. I was angry because the landlady had already experienced what the man was capable of, yet she still went back to him. Of course, what the ex-boyfriend did to her was completely wrong because she did not consent to it, and the blame for the rape is on him. But I also felt that she should have stayed away from him and protected herself after everything he had done before. The tenant was a really kind man, and if I were in his position, I would personally find it very difficult to continue the relationship after all that had happened. Having two children with the same man who had already abandoned her would be something very hard for me to accept. ‎ ‎ ‎But surprisingly, the tenant still decided to marry her. The landlady was shocked because she thought he would leave her after everything that had happened. Instead, he showed her that his love for her was genuine. He went with her to meet her father and told him that he wanted to marry his daughter. Her father was completely shocked because he never expected such a responsible man to come and ask for his daughter's hand in marriage. ‎ ‎The landlady then finally opened her heart to her father. She told him about all the bad things he had done to her and how much his words had hurt her. She told him that this young man was not even her relative, yet he loved her and accepted her even with everything she had gone through. But her own father, who was supposed to love her, could not even show her a little love. That scene really showed how much pain she had been carrying inside for many years. ‎

‎ ‎In the end, the landlady and the tenant got married and started their life together peacefully. For me, this movie had some good lessons, especially about how the way we treat people can affect their lives. I also understood the landlady better after seeing how badly her father treated her. I feel that some of the problems she had with men and the way she kept looking for love in the wrong places were connected to the lack of love and acceptance she received from her father. When someone grows up constantly being told that they are useless or unwanted, it can affect the choices they make later in life. ‎ ‎At the same time, I still did not like some of the landlady's decisions, especially going back to her ex-boyfriend and trusting him again. That part really disappointed me because she already had someone who genuinely loved and supported her. But overall, I enjoyed the movie because it showed both sides of her life. She was not just the troublesome landlady everyone feared. She was also a woman who had been hurt, was looking for love, and made some very bad decisions along the way. ‎ ‎The movie made me think about how quickly we can judge someone's behaviour without knowing what is happening inside their life. But it also reminded me that having a painful past does not mean we should continue making bad choices.
