I absolutely adore productions that play around with metaphors. I think it's ingenious and shows the amount of meticulousness and care that went into the making of the movie.
It goes without saying that in this particular generation, we all know who a GOAT is, or those who tend to be described as GOATs. Basically, the “ace” or best” in a particular field. For instance, if I say Messi is the GOAT of football... I’m mansplaining, but you get my drift.
So, yeah, I am always giddy when it comes to animations. Like in Coco, Frozen, or the more recent Swapped, which I believe I’m yet to review, and this is no exception. There’s a particular song in this animation that I knew like my name even before I found out about the existence of the movie. I would have been listening to it now as I type, but I’ve currently got an ear issue (more about that later… or not) that requires me to stay away from any semblance of earpods. So, that’s a bummer for me, I guess.
GOAT (2026)
It’s young goat Will Harris’ birthday. He watches his idol, Jett Filmore, play roarball for his homeland, Vineland’s Thorns, and he aspires to be just like her. Fast-forward to ten years later, and the Thorns are yet to win all season. Jett tells their manager, Flo, that they need to find a sixth player to complete the team.
In a stroke of social media luck, now older Will – who’s been kicked out of his apartment for rent issues – finds himself on the team. He comes to realize two things, though: there are more battles outside the court than on it, and he really should never meet his heroes.
My Thoughts and Rating
I really don’t know why this film did not perform better at Box Office. When it comes to anthropomorphic movies, I get super excited, especially because of the humour level. I don’t know, but I think they pay extra attention to making the lines as witty as possible. Kudos to them, for real. The lines may not have been the funniest, but they still did a good job.
I love the storyline of this movie. I love the names too. “Mane Attraction” being a horse’s name? How genius is that? Everything was pretty much unique to me, again, as it’s common with movies of this nature. Obviously, there’s an element of predictability which makes things a bit lacklustre, but if you’ve seen as little as three animated movies, it wouldn’t be so much of a hassle predicting the way the storyline would go. The fact that I could in some scenes took nothing away from the movie, though. Absolute brilliance!
I loved the soundtracks, as well. You could see that they were well curated, and a lot of effort was put into reflecting the storyline and the message being passed in the movie. 10/10, absolutely no notes on that score. I would add what my favourite track was, but if you see the film, you’ll definitely be able to guess it.
All in all, GOAT was a delightful movie that encouraged faith in oneself and the undisputed beauty of teamwork. It may not have been the cinematic masterpiece that you return to over and over again, but it, without a doubt, leaves its mark. A solid 8.5/10 movie in my books.
