Nollywood has been doing very well for some years now, especially when it comes to drama. You can always count on them for a great story. Fantasy however isn’t really their strong suit. That is why when I saw this movie I became curious. The reason for my curiosity was the thought about how Nollywood would want to mix their drama with fantasy because the last fantasy I watched was not one I would really recommend. However, this one turned out to be different. The movie got my attention from the beginning and for someone with a very low attention span, it is quite difficult to get my attention. The story was one that really made me reflect on my African heritage.
If you love history then you should also pay attention to this movie. It gave a brief history of the colonial era in Africa. It reminded me of one crucial part about our history: how one of our major weaknesses was that we were divided and fought amongst ourselves instead of being united against one enemy. I am not one to be a spoiler, so I will say this, there is a lot of twist to this story so do not believe everything you think you are seeing in the movie. When it started I thought I could figure out the end from the beginning, but I was wrong, there were things I never even expected at the end of the day but they happened anyway. And talking about the end, I was not really satisfied with how it ended. I do not know if it was intentional to leave us to our imagination, but I think it should have ended way better than the way it did. I am not one to like happy endings, and this wasn’t a happy or sad ending, it was just an ending LOL.
Talking about the story though, it was about a warrior who was sent out to hunt a beast. The journey however took a turn he never expected and the beast turned out to be more of a mystery at the end of the day. The journey also led the warrior to discovering dark truths about his heritage that later changed the entire cause of his belief system. The story also features a love story, one that affected the movie a great deal. In my opinion, this would have been better as a series because it held a lot of unanswered questions that should have been answered if it were a series. But I guess the producers could not afford it or something because even the end seemed a bit rushed. Overall I will give this a 7.5/10. If the graphics were better, then it would have turned out to be a major blockbuster.
