Gyeongseong Creature is a K-drama on Netflix released in the year 2023 with a very catchy costume design of the olden-days lifestyle of Japan. I couldn't stop admiring the suited dress style of the men in particular. So niceeeeee!
Park Seo-joon as Master Jang, the richest man in the city who owns a pawnshop, and Han So-hee as Yoon Chae-ok, the sleuth lady whom a difficult situation pushed into the job alongside her father, are the lead actors of this series. And, just as predicted from my screen time on Episode 1, I knew the chemistry between them was going to drive me nuts.
Chae-ok and her father went to Gyeongseong City while searching for an artist, Sochimoto, whose artwork would lead them to a trace of her Akiko(her mother), who had gone missing 10 years ago. Meanwhile, Sochimoto, the artist, was employed at the biggest hospital in the city to work as an artist, where human experiments to create monsters were being carried out without the people in the city knowing. Master Jang, on the other hand, was told by the police commissioner to locate the whereabouts of his girlfriend, or he would lose his pawnshop. Master Jang tried every possible means to get a hint about the whereabouts of the lady but couldn't find anything. When he heard that there were specialists in town, Chae-ok and her father, he approached them for the job. They accepted on the condition that Master Jang would help them find Sochimoto while they searched for the lady. That was it. What started as separate tasks eventually directed the two groups to the hospital, and they became a team.
The most interesting part of the series is their adventure in the hospital. It's full of suspense and shocks. They saw things that they couldn't comprehend. Humans were being kidnapped in the city and caged in the military chambers of the hospital, which were not known to outsiders. When the experiments on these captives did not give them a good result, they slaughtered the humans and burned them to ashes.
The Monsters:
The first successful monster that was created came from the woman, Chae-ok and her father had been looking for for ten years, who happened to be her mother. Unfortunately for her, her mother had already turned into a monster before they could get there.
The monster, which is just one in Season 1, though a work of CGI, looks so real and interesting to watch, especially during the anger and killing scenes. It can break through any iron, and the scenes of it hitting and piercing the human body appear so real and entertaining.
The Stereotype of Lead Actors Not Dying:
As much as I didn't want any of the lead actors to die because I was getting fond of them, they crossed many lines and took many paths that could naturally have led to their deaths, but that didn't happen. Oh, it happened at the end of the show, but there was a twist, and by then, I had become tired of the undying plot. For god's sake, Chaek-ok kept jumping into tasks that death was waiting for her.
I would rate this season a 7/10.
I have seen Season 2, which is... Let me hold it here for now.
