Before finally embarking on watching this Vikings series, one of the series I have had plans to watch for a long time, I first of all made up my mind never to easily discard it, just the way I did with GOT(Game Of Thrones). I just wanted to see if it was as interesting as people have hyped it up over the years.
I'm currently on Season 1, Episode 9, and so far, so good. I've been getting tempted to snub my work just to watch a little.
Ragnar Lothbrok is a fearless man who challenges their King very often, and when it's time for their next sail to conquer lands, Ragnar suggests that they sail to the West, a direction they haven't sailed to before, due to the possibility of getting lost at sea because they lack the means to navigate and might get swallowed by the wind. The King, who is referred to as Earl, refuses, but Ragnar stands his ground, creates a crew, and, without the consent of the King, they sail to the West, which leads them to England, a Christian village where they take everything in the church, kill a lot of Christians, and capture some as slaves.
The Earl, Earl Haraldson, didn't find the way Ragnar disobeyed him appealing because it showed that Ragnar wanted to dethrone him. So, that became the bone of contention.
The Customs and the Way of Life:
The series features the olden-day style of living, when technology had not yet been developed. I love the village style of the movie, with their thatched houses and ancient block-style buildings. Also, I must commend the idea of killing with ease, where the lives of humans appear as though they don't count. 
What do I mean?
The lives of people, even close friends, were taken with ease and without a second thought.
Ragnar killed a man who was complaining on the boat that they were lost.
Knut, the Earl's spy who was sent into Ragnar's team, was killed by Ragnar's wife.
Whenever a man is found guilty, they chop off his head without a second thought. Even the Christians kill to save themselves. It's as though killing is just part of everyone's way of life.
The Characters Rating:
Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), although I think his physical appearance matches the role well, I feel his facial expressions are off and don't match such a role. Most of the time, he talks as if he's joking, even when he's being serious. He sometimes talks as if he's reading the script placed on the screen in front of him.
Floki, although that's how he's meant to act, also appears way off, which is "sicky" behaviour.
Bjorn Lothbrok, although he's a boy, also talks sometimes as if he were reading the script in front of him.
The others matched their roles very well. Maybe I didn't see errors because they aren't in the main roles. But come to think of it, Earl Haraldson is one of the main roles until he is killed, and he acted very well and embodied the kingship role with everything in him.
So far, so good, the series has been going well for me. It's just that I lack enough time to watch it for a long stretch. I would rate it 8/10.
