The film takes us to 1998 in Yeosu, where the captain of a trawler faces a severe financial crisis. With the vessel in terrible condition, mounting bank debts, marital problems, and lenders refusing loans, the captain finds himself financially cornered. To save his ship and ensure his crew's livelihood, he accepts an illegal and extremely dangerous offer: to transport a group of undocumented immigrants across the open sea.
Although the crew initially believes they are going on an ordinary fishing trip, upon learning of the smuggling operation, they have no choice but to cooperate under the captain's strict orders. During the tense boarding of the migrants in the middle of the sea, a young woman falls overboard and is bravely rescued by Dong-sik, the youngest sailor. As the vessel continues its journey toward Seoul, a romantic and protective bond develops between Dong-sik and the survivor, whom he tries to shelter in the engine room.
The voyage becomes drastically complicated due to the captain's cruel treatment of any protests and the constant threat of maritime patrols. To avoid being discovered during an inspection, they hide the refugees in the cargo hold. This triggers a series of harrowing incidents that transform the ship into a claustrophobic stage of despair, paranoia, and rampant violence.
Amid the collapse of morality and the crew's extreme decisions to cover up the tragedy, Dong-sik keeps his promise to protect the young woman and bring her to shore alive, facing an increasingly hostile and dangerous environment.
I just finished watching it, and let me tell you, it's an incredibly suspenseful film. I fall more in love with Korean cinema every day. If there's one lesson this film teaches, it's that many things can go wrong when we become obsessed with something, and that we shouldn't try to force things. Sometimes it's better to do good, have peace of mind, and a clear conscience.

영화는 1998년 여수를 배경으로, 어선 선장이 심각한 재정난에 직면하는 이야기를 그립니다. 배는 엉망진창이 되고, 빚은 쌓여가고, 부부 문제는 불거진 데다 채권자들은 대출을 거부합니다. 결국 선장은 궁지에 몰립니다. 배를 살리고 선원들의 생계를 유지하기 위해, 그는 불법적이고 매우 위험한 제안을 받아들입니다. 바로 불법 이민자들을 망망대해 건너편으로 실어 나르는 것입니다.

방금 영화를 다 봤는데, 정말 엄청나게 긴장감 넘치는 영화였어요. 한국 영화에 점점 더 빠져드는 것 같아요. 이 영화가 주는 교훈이 있다면, 무언가에 집착하면 많은 문제가 생길 수 있고, 억지로 뭔가를 이루려 해서는 안 된다는 거예요. 때로는 옳은 일을 하고, 마음의 평화를 얻고, 양심에 거리낌 없이 살아가는 게 더 나을 수도 있다는 거죠.

Saludos cordiales a la Comunidad de la Aldea Coreana, me recomendaron esta película llamada Niebla (Haemoo) (2014) les puedo decir que comencé a verla para participar en el Concurso Korean Hive Village #61 Compartiendo la cultura coreana 🎁 pero increíblemente me atrapó, sin duda alguna muy emocionante y donde cada segundo que pasa te mantiene al vilo. El cine Coreano es verdaderamente espectacular.

La película nos traslada a 1998 en Yeosu, donde el capitán de un barco pesquero de arrastre enfrenta una severa crisis económica. Con la embarcación en pésimas condiciones, severas deudas bancarias, problemas conyugales y la negativa de los prestamistas, el capitán se ve acorralado financieramente. Para salvar su barco y garantizar sustento a sus hombres, acepta una oferta ilegal y sumamente peligrosa: transportar a un grupo de inmigrantes indocumentados en altamar.
Aunque inicialmente la tripulación cree que sale a una jornada ordinaria de pesca, al enterarse de la operación de contrabando no tienen más opción que colaborar bajo las estrictas órdenes del capitán. Durante el tenso abordaje de los inmigrantes en medio del mar, una joven cae al agua y es rescatada audazmente por Dong-sik, el marinero más joven. Mientras la embarcación continúa su curso hacia Seúl, surge un vínculo romántico y de protección entre Dong-sik y la superviviente, a quien él intenta resguardar en la sala de máquinas.
