Can someone explain to me where this weird sense of entitlement comes from in some people I notice on Hive?

I don't mean to take a break from my break from hive and create a drama post sitting in a chair in my hotel room, but sometimes these things drive me to do it as it really bugs me. Maybe it's cause I've always been a bit of an introvert growing up and didn't expect much of life or did the whole spiel of "if you don't expect anything you won't be disappointed", dunno why it bugs me so much.

I've seen this happen time after time, whether it's about downvotes and how they turn people into raging lunatic narcissists or about the lack of upvotes even though hive has literally one of the best barriers to earnings compared to any other social media platform/blogging site. Here you may just need a couple stakeholders wanting to welcome newcomers to get a few cents to a few dollars in upvotes on your first post, you don't need to give us information about who you are, you don't need to sign tax documents, send us a copy of your passport, etc.

The weirdest thing is that most do understand the pending reward system we have here, and that pending doesn't just mean "it can only go up from here", it may also mean that someone may change their mind and unvote (even though those things happen rarely) or that someone may downvote the post which also happens rarely, or that price active may adjust the pending displayed rewards in usd based on the 3 day average of hive's price. (I've even gotten many questsions about that in the past, naturally when hive was going down only)

Maybe it's cause I've been through many different scenarios involving downvotes and reward adjustments that I usually don't expect any until they pay out. Such as downvote wars, large staekholders downvoting me for months because a shitpost of theirs was trending and I dared to lower the rewards a bit. Maybe cause some thought they could upvote friends to trending constantly even though they barely made an effort to bring some value to the ecosystem while their posts also didn't garner any attention on here, or the crazier times where some would go after my upvotes to downvote cause I wasn't posting at the time, etc.

I don't wanna single anyone out, but I feel like most people expect to get high salaries for even lifting a finger at doing something. Maybe that explains why most of the DHF proposals pay people for upcoming work rather than past work and we've somehow normalized that. Or how most devs/authors just disappear when the price of hive isn't to their liking even if the amount of rewards they get in hive is the same as it was before (authors).

You can maybe imagine my trigger when I get a notification of a tag of literally one of the top rewarded authors asking why their post wasn't curated. I don't usually burst out at random but knowing and having followed this particular user for a while and seen some other questions and activities of him that lead to this maximization mindset - I kinda had to say something. I'm just wondering what it is that drives people to tunnelvision into maximization of rewards at all cost, especially their dignity. Similarly the same user had been delegating to projects, leaving them a comment checking if he'd get "support" after mentioning the delegation which has increased this weird activity on chain where most people are just getting their own votes back + more while enriching literal autovote bots at the cost of distributing their stake manually to other users and connecting with them. I'm sure you're aware by now which projects may do this and I'm thankful to some of you who don't participate in such activities.

Either way, kind of a rant. Other than that I'm kind of chilling at the moment, walking a lot and trying to survive on a small daily budget in an expensive city, which isn't that fun but what can you do when the markets are the way they are and debt and bills have to be re/paid.

I'm kinda missing being back behind the screen and working more on scrobble, life, games for it and eventually toggle back towards holozing development.

Hope ya'll been well and that I'll see you soon again. Nice to see some games sprouting on hive and thanks to everyone testing some I've released.

Greetings friend, certainly people are complex; when they gain something, there are always those who are dissatisfied. There is also a tendency towards inequality, but if we look at Hive, it has been A very nice place. I, at least, living in a chaotic country like Venezuela, have had to use some of my earnings on Hive, but whether it's a little or a lot, it's something you earn by having a good time. That's already a positive point. Sometimes I wonder why Hive isn't as widely used as Facebook or TikTok, and then I understand. It requires a lot of effort and hours of study to be able to publish here, while on other platforms it's extremely easy. But despite my financial problems, I didn't leave Hive when everything went downhill.Price-wise, I've tried to be more consistent and have even bought Hive with money I earn at my job, to replace some of what I've had to use due to the circumstances.

I agree with you on many of the points you have made in your post above. I have been around our blockchain for about ten years and many of the issues you address have existed before HIVE forked from the blockchain that will not be named (I don't want to step on anyone's toes).

Now here is another for you that gets my goat: Bratty behavior by a number of the members of our governance (block-producers/witnesses) in the HIVE Discord server. To quote another person, who will not be named, here is what he had to say:

Quote: It is like the Worldwide Wrestling Federation in the DHF Proposals channel!

Due to my drinking during my life, I have received a great deal of therapy at substance abuse rehabilitation facilities. I share this because I learned that my alcoholism was both a neurological and spiritual issue. This is why everyday I self-talk by saying this little mantra:

G-d, grant me the *serenity* to **accept** the things I can't change, the **courage** to change the things I can, and the **wisdom** to know the difference!

Hang in there my friend. We all must go through valleys before reaching mountain tops. While in the valley look for the flowers, they are there I guarantee!

  • These days, it seems that everyone's expenses are rising and earning is a challenge

  • @grindle(79)· 6h

I like the words "reward adjustment" it seems far more civilised than "downvote" which seems aggressive by comparison. enjoy your break

  • If my post doesn't get as big rewards as I would like I just think that maybe the next day my post will do better. Besides sometimes a post can have less than 50 cents in reward for let's say 8+ hours and reach few dollars rewards later. That is another thing I like about Hive. In facebook normally if my post doesn't get likes within a few hours it is not likely to get much attention later.

In my country there is a saying: "Wey see faces, we don't know hearts.*

I hope you're well and that your trip is very fruitful.

The good thing about this is that in a moment of chaos, they drop the mask and you can see who's who. You already knew this would happen; it was just a matter of time. Keep enjoying your vacation.

    Howdy Acid-dude 😎

E-N-J-O-Y the time you have away from the zoo!

You are new to seeing entitlement? 😁 I think not, I imagine you see a lot!

Oh and it ain't just on Hive... It's every-bloody-where today. The trick is to not let it inside of you, sometimes all it takes is some well-chosen 'sweary words' to say under your breath and then look away 😎

You raise an extremely good point though, until the moment that post pays out, those rewards are 'theoretical', don't really exist in a real sense, until they do!

I don't mean to take a break from my break from hive

I'm kinda missing being back behind the screen and working more on scrobble, life, games for it and eventually toggle back towards holozing development.

Now! I gotta say if I was working on behalf of the prosecution team, 😏 I would use these 2 statements to make my case. Go have fun! That's an order soldier...

Other than that I'm kind of chilling at the moment, walking a lot and trying to survive on a small daily budget in an expensive city, which isn't that fun...

This is going to make me sound like a dumb-ass (I am fairly comfortable and accustomed to that!) I used to try and turn this exact situation in to a game... To see how fab a day I can have with x-ammount of money, or how well I can eat for how cheap, I contemplated making some content from this... Could I spend virtually nothing and double my budget for the next day etc...

    When m'lady and I were newly moved in together in our first proper home, she would cry about bills, money, worries a lot... I introduced her to a game called;

Yellow sticker shopping... We would go to the super-market with literal pennies and find the highest quality foods we possibly could, that were slashed in price as they were today's 'use by' date.

She learned to think more 'Stevenish' and viewed our financial situation better nowadays, even when I was in hospital and lost my job, she mentioned 'yellow sticker shopping' even though I know worry was building within.

When a crap situation is a crap situation and nothing's gonna change it, all we have is perspective to feel like we have some control. I guess.

The one place I never skimp is 'words' they are my one luxury...

Be well, take care try and bloody chill, even a bit dude! Other than that I'm kind of chilling at the moment, walking a lot and trying to survive on a small daily budget in an expensive city, which isn't that fun Other than that I'm kind of chilling at the moment, walking a lot and trying to survive on a small daily budget in an expensive city, which isn't that fun 😎🌻

Bzzz, following the honey trail right to you, because THANK YOU for everything you do for Ecency — helping new bees find their way into the hive is exactly the kind of work that grows a colony. And 'N title D' is now officially on this bee's reading list for the next flower break! 📖🐝

Unfortunately, when you get someone used to being treated well, after a while they start to believe that things will always be that way. Often, the quality of their work starts to decline too, because they feel like they deserve the reward... simply because they've always received it before.

I personally try to maintain a certain level of quality in my posts and not fall below it. I try to respect the platform and the people who take the time to vote for me. Even though most of them are regular users rather than big curators, I appreciate every single vote I receive.

It's good to see you're alive and well! I hope you manage to sort out your move soon and get back to a normal, comfortable life.

And as for the walks... You once said yourself that you missed them, so now you have a chance to enjoy them a little! :)

  • @stayoutoftherz(80)· 16h

Whom do you mean, I don´t like this puzzles. You can let me know in an encrypted memo, thanks a lot!

  • I think when you do something you enjoy, you don't really look for much in return. The enjoyment itself is the reward.

If you do something to earn on Hive, that's a different thing. It can be disappointing when things don't go as you expect. But some people remain loyal to Hive, continuing to support the platform even when there's hardly anything in it for them, and we can see those people.

We can also see those who only come back because they're expecting something.

The thing is, when we see the community still thriving despite the current price, some people come here expecting rewards without contributing anything, just trying to get what they can. I find that quite selfish, especially when they do it simply because they can.

Meanwhile, I see people working their butts off for almost nothing, and it really breaks my heart.

You also see authors who could still contribute regularly, even if they had to slow down while Hive is low, but they don't. They stop completely and suddenly come back when things are looking better for them.

I don't know. Maybe some people are just loyal to Hive, while others aren't. Some are here to contribute and support the community, while others are just here to take and take without thinking about giving anything back.

I guess everyone has their own reasons, but it's sad to see people who are willing to give so much to the community even when there's very little in return, while others only show up when there's something to gain.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's just my observation. Enjoy the rest of your holiday, and don't let these things ruin your break. ☺️

  • @gwajnberg(77)· 18h

I got some problems here and I admit that developing just make me forget a bit all this problems and sadness. That is the trick, don't focus too much on that!

Well soon you will be back to scrobble life stuff again ;)

  • @davideownzall(75)· 18h

Without even checking I already can guess who that is and it's surely a shady person, exploiting much possible, I can't do much about it with my little stake unfortunately

  • @curatorcat.pal(68)· 19h

    People are increasingly entitled. Period.

If we step back and take the 10,000 meter overview, it's not necessarily about Hive, it's about the world.

I get in line for some self-service thing, and the payment terminal asks me whether I want to leave a tip. For WHAT? I did everything, myself...

Servers at restaurants (at least here in the USA) have hysterical fits if they don't get a 20% tip. Even if all they did was stand there and pick their nose.

People start YouTube/Insta/Tiktok accounts and get all whingy because they don't have a million followers within a couple of weeks.

    Where's my Lambo?

Are entitled people on Hive annoying? Of course! Perhaps it serves as our reminder that blockchain and decentralization may solve some problems, but they can't solve Human Nature!
