Women are natural warriors; we face constant challenges day in and day out—as daughters, wives, mothers, friends, professionals, and homemakers—because our work continues when we get home, and there are so many other things that come up, since there’s always an unexpected situation or a last-minute issue to resolve. It’s only natural that every now and then this overwhelms us and we feel overwhelmed or exhausted.
That is precisely the theme of this week’s two questions for the Ladies of Hive Community Contest No. 305 from the Ladies of Hive Community
Now, ever since I was a little girl, I’ve faced various challenges; for example, believing I was ugly because my classmates told me so and I let that belief take root, and then struggling with wearing glasses because they called me “four-eyes.” Growing up in poverty was another challenge, but it taught me that getting things takes effort, as well as to value more what I have and what I achieve; I also learned to be grateful.

So I can say without a doubt that much of the strength I have—the strength that comes to the fore when the world tries to make me feel small—comes from my upbringing, from the two beautiful women who raised me, my grandmother and my mother, who were always there for me. Whether it was teaching me to read, helping me with my homework, standing up for me against teachers and mean people when I needed it, supporting me at every stage of my education, and even when I became a mother myself—they were always there for me.
They showed me what discipline, perseverance, love, and never giving up can achieve—that love isn’t just words; it’s demonstrating it through actions, and, without a doubt, correcting you when necessary, because that, too, is love; setting boundaries and teaching you what’s right and wrong—that’s true love.
On the other hand, if there’s one thing that has given me the most courage and is my main driving force to fight and keep moving forward, it was becoming a mother; this first allowed me to fully understand my own mother and then gave me the courage to keep going, and even though my son is already 23 years old, I know I’ll still be there whenever he needs me.

In addition, I’ve recently faced challenges at work that—I won’t deny—have shaken me to my core, to the point of even affecting my health. It’s not pleasant to be in a hostile work environment and have a direct supervisor who makes work issues personal; this has forced me to rethink many things and find ways to internalize that I shouldn’t take things personally—that people give what they have, and I can’t change that, since it’s beyond my control.
In closing, women are strong by nature, and often, if we aren’t strong enough, the circumstances around us force or push us to be so. So I’ll sign off here, leaving these lines behind and looking forward to reading your comments. Hugs.
