Learned from AI Dramas about End Users

You know those AI dramas? Most of them are AI slop but these aren't getting unpopular. There's more of these getting pumped out and some of them have good story lines.

I'm for celebrating originality and human creativity but I'm not going to pretend that this isn't what the general market really wants. The fact that we acknowledge it's slop but there are countless users hooked into these shows giving hours of their lives they can't take back proves there's something that's working.

It's like even if you know it's generative AI, as long as it entertains you, it can pass.

The people that care about the art and preservation of human dignity exists but their numbers are overwhelmed by consumers that don't really care about that AI part and just want to be entertained. And there's money being generated from it.

I've seen engagement clickbait posts themed gen Z quitting the workplace and HR drama on X. How much of those posts are actually rehashed AI slop? but it works. It gets views. That's just how the general market appreciates creatives. Not saying it's time to stop being original and do our best, I'm saying trying to adapt includes accepting that not as many people as we want could understand the struggle artists go through because of AI generated slop.

I've seen creatives make use of AI trying to bring their concept to life like the "Angel Engine" a horror sci fi project. When it got more popular, only did it get a backlash for the use of generative AI so the creator worked with real visual artists to continue the project. But the to get to that point, the catalyst was AI enabling something to happen like getting the content out there. I think the future will be something like artists accessing skills that supplements their creativity to produce content.

I thought about writing stories and then publishing audiobooks before, what if I used a voice generated AI to step up my story telling? just some shower thoughts.

More rules are made to make AI generated content acceptable and it's affected curation. On one hand, it's taboo to have an AI write your posts but it's ok when the subject of the post is an generated art image? The former just gets quicker results.

Thanks for your time.

I have thought about using AI voices for animation when I was still doing an animation as it would be infinitely easier than dealing with people (especially given that it would be incredibly difficult to pay them what they were worth because I'm a brokey) but then I would feel bad about not using real people with real voices (I wanted to say "give them the opportunity" but that's not very accurate on my part) .

Wouldn't ever use it to write or draw anything though that's the fun part for me. I would much rather it help me with house maintenance but looks like we can't manage that yet (I have thought of a little robot vacuum but it would get lost here very easily plus harassed by my dog plus die because of the amount of cat hair and sand and then it would probably literally blow up in my face in revenge).

I occasionally find AI slop entertaining in the sense that it's so hilariously bad I can't even but someone (usually sibling dearest who keeps finding some on her Youtube) or something (those stupid ads in the rare moments I play stupid phone games on my stupid phone) normally has to put it in front of me, I have an infinite amount of infinitely better things to do.

  • This is the part I keep coming back to: people know it is slop and watch it anyway because it entertains them. The Angel Engine example is a good one, AI got the idea out the door and real artists finished it. That feels like the honest middle ground. The curation point stuck with me too, it is strange that an AI image is fine but AI-written text is taboo when both are shortcuts. Made me think.

For a little over a year, I’ve been using AI for my blog and my work. Sometimes I’m tempted to copy something from it, but generally, I do everything myself, and it just helps with refinements. It’s probably not worth mentioning, though—people tend to lose their minds over it. Especially teenagers.
